Retro installments of this series sold a combined 50 million. It's one of the most significant and influential series ever. More than other supposed "influential" games that people parrot here. Say something nice about it.

Do you think there are people who drive vehicles for a living that then come home and are like "hell yeah, going to play some Gran Turismo or Forza or something"?

Gran Turismo isn't simulating driving per se, it's simulating life of being a car guy. Gran Turismo is playing the long game, this series wants to see you grow from a boy to a man. It will beat you with a belt with license tests, but when you hit adulthood whether it be your 20s or 30s, you will buy a car that is from Gran Turismo. Owning a car that is Gran Turismo approved feels good.

OP isn't wrong it's more he's foolish to think a sim being influential means anything. They're designed to be replaced by the next bigger sim and more advanced sim. This isn't like Mario 64 or even Quake. It's sad but true, sim games are iphones of game genres.

Locked diff is what you use when you can't afford anything else, ideally you want a relatively open diff on decel for corner entry oversteer.

People have been playing Assetto for over a decade now though. And Richard Burns is still the best rally game despite being a PS2 title. These games have tons of mods, to the point where anyone interested in modding a sim racer would have no reason to touch GT.

GT fans are kind of their own thing.

>> No.10926573

GT games, at least the retro ones, are not really sims. They are no more complex than TOCA or Colin McRae games, maybe even less. And controls are more forgiving than Enthusia. GT is more of a car porn.

I hate how 1 to 4 were the better installments, but are the only ones without Ferrari, it really pisses me off and its pissed me off since then, still nice that NFS had them at least since the franchise used to be good when EA knew what they were doing with it. Anyways, what a pain.

idk but ive heard 5+ werent as good. more cars but not as good races and tracks and stuff overall. Did they add damage modeling yet? can you fucking go inside the car like 90% of all racing games have done for 15yrs and have an in dash view? idk where the series is at but it used to be my favorite series and it fell off due to lack of ps3/4. but ive heard the games have gone to shit and thats a shame cuz I still enjoy playing 1-4 and racing the tiny vehicles and upgrading them.

From what I understand, some manufacturers don't give a shit, whereas others are super protective of their image. It may be different nowadays, but a big example is Honda; years ago you couldn't depict their cars taking damage or participating in any illegal activities like unsanctioned street racing.
