>Links
Retro sizer https://retrosizer.com/
Retro handhelds spreadsheet https://pastebin.com/ZyqXr19r
SoC Comparison https://versus.com/en/mobile-chipset

>Where to buy
Aliexpress, gogamegeek, litnxt, keepretro, mechdiy, Anbernic/retroid store

>What to know about brands
Retroid: Well built, powerful, but expensive (100$+)
Anbernic: Balance between price, power and build quality. Just avoid the RG Nano
Powkiddy: Cheap, low quality builds, interesting shapes (square, clamshell, big screen)
Miyoo: One hit wonder
Game Console: Copycat popular products with lower prices, better specs, but weaker build qualities
TrimUI: Good build quality, shitty software with no good CFW alternatives

>How do I get games
Google: tiny best set

>What do I buy
Post your preferences: Money (20$ - 200$), Shape (horizontal, vertical, clamshell, square), Pocketable or not, OS (Linux, Android, Both), Systems (Pre PSX is 8, 16, and 32-bit eras, PSX with extras, Dreamcast and N64, PSP and DS, PS2 and GC/Wii capable)

>Recommended devices
Prices depend on when and where you buy.
- Retroid Pocket 4 (200$, horizontal, 4.7" 16:9 Screen, up to PS2/GC, android)
- Retroid Pocket 2S (100$, horizontal, 3.5" 4:3 Screen, can play some PS2/GC, android, pocketable)
- Powkiddy RGB30 (90$, horizontal, 4" 1:1 Screen, PSX with extras, linux, pocketable)
- Trimui Smart Pro (60$, horizontal, 5" 16:9 Screen, PSX with extras, linux)
- Anbernic RG 35XX Plus (60$, 3.5" 4:3 Screen, PSX with extras, linux, pocketable)
- Miyoo mini plus (60$, 3.5" 4:3 Screen, PSX with extras, linux, pocketable)
- R36S (40$, vertical, 3.5" 4:3 Screen, up to PSX with extras, linux, pocketable)

>Things I need to know
- Handhelds come with low quality SD cards. Back them up on your computer, throw them away, and buy new ones.
- It takes some tinkering, specially linux devices.
- Overall quality of these products is very cheap.
- Reviewers get free handhelds, caveat emptor.

I would probably never play it, it's more expensive and less capable than my current handheld, and the stock firmware sucks and it has no cfw, but it's so cute

I wish I had money to burn so I could just get it anyway and use it as a desk ornament

Front-facing speakers and bottom 3.5mm jack, smaller/more inset joysticks, less clicky shoulders (also better quality plastic for the shoulders). And no random buzz/click from the speakers whenever I flip from OS into a game and vice versa, but that might be software. Touch screen would've also been nice for DS but whatever.
Personally I like the thing for how much I paid for it and what I want to do with it. Going by dimensions, Trimui Smart Pro doesn't fit nicely in my pocket as much as this thing does, I'm also tempted to pick up a RG28XX eventually so I'm biased (positively) toward this thing for now.

No. The Switch CPU is actually very, very weak and you also need to hardmod. Switch relies on mulithreading, limited boosting, and the power of the GPU to carry it. It is terrible for emulation.

Deck is thicc but you can't beat the accessibility of SteamOS/Linux and x86 support.

>I could emulate ps2 games on my computer and stream it to the Trimui, right?
>or does that lag like shit
Depends on your home network. It's only 2.4GHz so if you're in a crowded network environment like mine surrounded by brick walls you may need to use a wifi adapter in the room or nearby.
I usually stream at 720p/6mb and it's fine, looks good at 0.1 BPP for 60 fps and 0.2BPP for 30.
Streamed a few things so far, was streaming bluestacks w/ Nier rein, streamed FFXI, streamed replicant, disgaea 4, saga emerald beyond, FFXII and SMT III so far.

There's also a build of portmaster now too.

Stock is alright now, they're right about the OP needing to be updated nothing like it was at launch, 1.0.3 & 4 are good.
.4 includes Vulkan support, bluetooth audio support and streaming over moonlight. The file browser's still kinda shit (no hold to scroll, have to spam the R button) and there's no syncthing/scraper.
Also one reviewer had issues calibrating the sticks on an early build review I saw but I can confirm calibration works A-OK on my unit.

top is with nothing configured just jumped into mushroom cup 150cc and it ran fine, those settings were: opengl, 1x internal res, asynchronous shader comp off

bottom was me going into settings and switching to vulcan, 2x internal res, and asynchronous shader comp on

both instances ran full frames besides a frame loss or two i assume for caching or buffering when the lap first starts during actual gameplay

the second settings i did ran well enough that i don't really have any reason to believe it'd be any different with fe:awakening unless there's something unique about it that it's notoriously hard to emulate or some shit (i don't know what those titles are for 3ds, the "yoshi's island/snes" equivalents)

I have better luck with Wii games, like MKWii which runs great. There are literally no good Genesis games if you aren't a Sonic fan. I sometimes go through old game catalogues when I don't feel like playing something I'm hours into already and my eyes glaze over any time I'm in the Genesis list. It was probably ok for its time but by now everything in there is about as good as the shovelware you see on eshop or Steam.

Vita still has the entire vita library and does pretty good PSX/PSP, so if you're happy with yours or have an OLED model the value may be less worth it,
TrimUI does PSP pretty well too tho, better moonlight client and less of a pain if you use multiple devices to get saves from, you get portmaster too. Benefits for the TSP are also fast-ish charging, Vita depending on your battery may have you charging then switching off to full charge depending on battery health.
However the TSP is also selling for a very nice price, could be good if you want a banger/beater to take around with you.

>also, that is mad fucking autismal.
Nah, it's no different than using a CD/DVD binder in the old days for games desu.
I get it, I used to archive all my stuff and do backups of shows and stuff but filesizes exploded, didn't have capacity for a BD burner and I hate external BD drives.
To put it in context, back in the 5th and 6th gen, every good pirate had a good binder or spindle. Normalfags who got rid of boxes, cases and manuals used em too.
Printing your own little labels isn't autism my man, it's just lightscribe for the modern man in an age where there are no lightscribe SD card slots.

Shitting on backups is also kiddy peak norfmalfag behaviour. One of my fav King Crimson performances is their Munich 1982 gig and their Waiting Man performance is phenomenal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlP8B0fVF5Y.. Here it is on youtube, but I had myself a nice DVD backup of the bootleg show and had access to the direct audio too. I experienced HDD failure and it was gone, except it wasn't. It was right there in my binder of KC bootlegs.
We now live in an age where DGM release fantastic concerts like this and do giant boxsets with the entire tour including even recordings that cutout and everything's online but finding & sharing this stuff back in 2004? Man. Nah.

That's thinner than a Nokia 5310, it's gotta feel awful in the hands, I wonder how bad the buttons feel to press.
Very curious is that the on off switch is a slider switch too, which is gonna be subject to w/t and break eventually.

Stop huffing on /g/ memes. Both Linux and Windows suck at power management for mobile gaming (too much power allocated to the CPU and RAM) and stand by modes.
Steam deck has good battery life because its chip is way more power efficient than other mobile APUs.

Got my rg28xx in the mail yesterday, decided to get one on a whim because it reminded me of emulation consoles from about 15 years ago that I enjoyed a lot.

Been playing it for a few hours, pretty impressed with the performance overall, plays some dreamcast stuff, pretty overkill because I will probably just use it for GBC and GBA, bit of SNES AND Mega Drive.

Some cons though:
>let's you add filters to RetroArch, but performance suffers badly if you do
>speaker is shite, crackles during transitions in and out of games
>even my slender girl hands cramp up using it for longer than 45 mins
>L and R placement is absolutely awful, needing to be pressed by the middle section of your fingers
Though you can just remap L2 and R2 to be L and R. Without analogues, you likely won't be doing much that calls for both sets.

It does what I wanted for about what I wanted to spend though, so pretty impressed overall.
