Risky's Revenge is like the 2nd worst game in the series, and that map you posted is like the first level, the equivalent of a training area. Later parts of the game get fucking absurd mazes - the two things the series creator can do is 1. awesome animation and 2. stupidly complex puzzles (it's why their second most popular series is Mighty Switch Force).

GBA physicals are supposed to start shipping in October 2024.
It should get dumped immediately though.
The digital release being an LRG "Carbon Engine" title will just mean it's an emulator written by MVG packaged with some extras and hi-res portrait overlays, with an effortlessly extracted ROM. This is already true for their releases of Trip World DX, Xtreme Sports, Shantae, River City Girls Zero, etc.

>>10893402
Modern LRG does open pre-order systems (with rare exceptions) to manufacture stock according to the demand, contrary to larger retail market that estimates the demand and manufactures at the risk of making too few or too many.
Otherwise yeah the fact they only ever do it once is for artificial scarcity and for collectors.

Incidentally, the ROMs of Trip World + DX from cartridge differ slightly to the digital release, as well as from the original release.
Family of mine dumped their own LRG GB/GBC cartridges, and the GBC dump matches the one leaked here.

He's probably 100% cool with people making their own dumps and poking around the files. The extracted contents are all easy to read too, stuff like basic PNG or MP4 files.

The Switch is pretty easy to homebrew, dump your game carts or digital games, and use Ryujinx on PC to emulator extract ROMFS to see what assets its loading in.

Much of it would be directly re-used for Risky's Revenge on DSiWare.

The bird "Wren" turning into a giant was also an unused idea that eventually used for Half-Genie Hero, it's always neat to see things from unfinished projects making their way into later instalments.

That sprite sheet by the way, is it reconstructed from old pre-release screenshots, or that recent WayForward lot that contained a shitload of prototypes and source codes?
https://hiddenpalace.org/WayForward_lot
The lot apparently included Shantae Advance, which they opted to not share because of the upcoming retail release. They'll probably share it post digital-launch though where it can't hurt the game's sales or spoil anything.

Actually, Shantae Advance more closely resembled Shantae GBC in terms of art style, as evident by the color palette, curly clouds and sprite designs.

And I think it has more if that classic Mr. Bozon charm than anything since Risky's Revenge.
The sprites btw are reconstructed, and not from the WayForward lot.

However, the full Shantae Advance game just threw a bunch of shit together of differing art styles like a 2000s fangame

Here, and while I'm excited for this, I'm kinda not fond of the art direction, and while it kept most GBA era assets intact, it feels cobbled together, as 90% of the new assets are in the Risky's Revenge/Pirate's Curse style.

So long story short: it's a weird mashup of the classic and modern pixel eras

So should I play it with color correction or not?

Games from the GBA era were meant to be play on GBA screens and if you emulate them now you should use a filter for color correction, otherwise it is not what "developers intended" but since this is an unfinished game and the people who are going to release it now finished it then I don't know how you're supposed to play it. Because if they used a modded GBA with IPS screen or an emulator to test the game that means they developed some parts of the game with raw colors in mind.

It's aftermarket but the distinction is that they're gonna be using official SDKs and tools from the era, rather than common homebrew kits.

It'll be considered an unlicensed release since Nintendo wouldn't license it for the hardware or manufacture any of the cartridges.

Not sure, it depends on whether Nintendo licensed the SDKs and hardware kits, or sold them.
I don't know that much about that side of things but have some awareness that some kits tend to be loaned then eventually returned.

I doubt Nintendo feels that strongly against it because a lot of Switch eShop games are actually homebrew ROMs for retro consoles, wrapped in an emulator. Kudzu is a very recent example of this.
