I love when Arino goes to retro game stores, I don't know why. The cheap prices maybe, or how they all seem unique, or how they're simply a treasure trove. I'm planning on visiting next year; I wonder how much I'll spend on retro games.

>>1087120

Around that. One yen fluctuates around .8-1.2 cents.

They're probably worth about as much as the consoles are. At least that's been my experience trying to find a Super Famicom controller.

>I wonder how much those untouched controllers/n64 consoles are in Japan.

Here is a higher res pic showing the price of N64 controllers to be 2200 yen, which is about 22 dollars. As for the N64 console, I don't know but the prices are usually reasonable, and also the used ones are in very very good condition. Japanese people usually keep things in good condition, and it is very common to keep the boxes too as many people will see their old electronics on when they are upgrading. Sorry about the delay.

>Didnt think these shops liked you taking pictures?

Depends on the store and the size of the camera. Better using a phone or a smaller camera and also better going to a smaller store. Larger stores usually don't like it.

I'm just seeing pretty much parallel prices to what I have here in my market, and higher than online prices - especially in bulk. The "rare" cases are pretty interesting, as some games that are rare there are obviously not rare here like Abe's Oddysee for example. I also noticed that one of my Genesis games sold for big ass money in Japan under it's Japanese name as a North America Import"

I guess if thinking that buying a game you can't play or understand is pointless than sure. Games are meant to be played, not some stupid trophy to display on your shelf never to be touched.

Yup, that definitely isn't a murrican retro store.

The 4 in my area alone have coats of dust so thick on their consoles they all look grey, I'm not even kidding. The worse part? They still charge top dollar for this shit even though they aren't even trying to 'keep it up'. They just stack them ontop of each other in a corner. The N64s even have spider webs on them.

You should learn the ancient art of haggle then my goy.
You go into the store and start arguing with the owner.

If he doesn't sell those to you for the price YOU want to pay, you tell him the truth, that nobody is going to buy those old hunk of plastic and that you're doing him a favour.
Go at it for like 15-20 minutes, he could get exhausted and give you the desired price while hating your guts.

Remember that when you deal with private shops and not shitty chains like gamestop and the like, they set the price and therefore they may be inclined to lower it to get rid of it.

I think it depends on the stores and the game sin particular, sure, its still better than the "ruined" market we have here, but even there if you go to stores, dont really expect to see SFC and Megadrive games under 30 dollars.......

For that however, there's the japanese flea markets, when you can find for dirt cheap if you dont mind the shape of the used games.

>> No.1092328

How hilarious. I was in that exact same shop last week. It was really cool. It reminded me how many games that Japan never localized, most of them anime games. Bought myself one of the Super Boy's (the portable SNES device). Although, I remember there being a much better retro game shop across the street called Super Potato. I can post pics if anyone wants them?

Note: They're not very good...

Now you're speaking my language. Are they im Akihabara? Or more rural areas? Are they like flea markets here or more like asian neighborhood street markets? Where can I find out this kind of stuff?

Hiragana first, Guy. You can actually sit down with a book and a mostly hiragana game and play from day 1 - or maybe day 2 depending on how hard a time you have getting accustomed to the characters.

>> No.1092451

>> No.1092459

>>1092427

Not without learning grammar first, you're not. You'll have no idea where a word ends and a particle begins without at least taking a glance at a grammar book. Not to mention you'll have to learn katakana which is arguably harder than hiragana and at least some vocab, or else you'll be transcribing for 2 minutes every text box.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing at all, just that there's no way you'd be able to do it with just the knowledge of hiragana. There's no point if you can't at least identify some words and the grammar structure.

>Shit, I'd love to have a japanese copy of Oddworld. Are both PSX releases this expensive?

I'm guessing the reason all the games in that case were so expensive is because they're still sealed. Unsealed I would be cheaper, I'd imagine. But, hell, for sealed games, that's really, well I don't want to say cheap, but really a great deal.
