My guess is that the loophole whereby users could override the data of other uploaders on the FTP was exploited by someone with a lot of a time and hatred on his hands. My early theory is that it was the so-called Anti-FTP troll.

As he says, all the data is fine. He just had to pull it for some reason, or it's backed up and was ruined on the server itself. But note that whatever ruined the data was people "ruining it for everyone".
