Any recommended rail shooter games a la Space Harrier?

One of my favourite is Attack Animal Gakuen for Famicom.

What was that one game that was described as Star Fox with a story? It's on the /v/ wiki and I think it starts with V.

Also, Gamera 2000 for the PSX, which has some *fantastic* live action portions.

In that case try Burning Force, it's a great game and the graphics are very clean and uncluttered compared to Panorama Cotton.

Space Fantasy Zone for PC Engine is great. I can't understand why it was cancelled when it was finished and ready for sale. Good thing the iso exists.

Wild Guns for SNES. Any game where you can play a cowboy shooting the hell out of mecha is awright by me.
