>That game you couldn't beat as a kid you replayed it as an adult and finally beat it

Rayman 2. Yeah, I know it's not a very hard game. But I swear that some sections are harder when playing with the keyboard on PC. Arrow keys severely limit steering angles when compared to a controller with an analog stick. This is especially detrimental in levels such as Temple of Fire and Stone or the last flying rocket segments including the Razorbeard fight. I got to the very end but couldn't ever beat Razorbeard when I was a child (even with the infinite ammo secret). I only beat this game as an adult.

It's easy when you play patiently while anticipating moving platforms and enemies. To beat the game you need a throwing move which is only explained in the manual and isn't needed anywhere else

Gradius II. Spent a long ass time as a 14 year old trying to beat the pc engine cd port to no avail. 12 years later I finally managed to beat the arcade on MAME

I remember getting to the final "boss" on the PC version and never winning against it.
I eventually won on the SNES version via emulator and even then the boss makes your fingers hurt afterwards from all the button mashing you have to do.
I didn't know you had to run from it and I thought you had to do a timed punch against it or something.

The last level filtered me as a kid. As an adult it was still a little tough because, at least on the PS1, the framerate is fucking terrible on the last level.

A couple of years ago I finally got all platinums on my childhood save of Crash 3, and also caught all 151 in Pokemon Red. They were pretty big achievements for me, the next step is getting all Platinums in Crash Bash and catching all 386 Pokemon in Gen 3. I think that's my main childhood games beaten once I've done that.

>> No.10849186

>>10849090
Finishing Crash Bash was the one thing I had left to do. Those platinum relics were a real bitch the first time, much more so than any time trials from the other games. Some of them did seem like pure RNG at first, but there are ways of getting each one more or less consistently. But definitely took way more effort than platinums in 3 or CTR.

Cool to read that other people have the same mindset.

Picrel kept crashing at the mission with the vampires in campaign mode.
Took it back with a new pc and beat it, not hard, a lot of fun.

How do you do this in one save file without cheating? I guess you have to start another file on a different cartridge and trade over the missing starters? I'd like to do it but I don't think I even own any link cables anymore.

there are glitches and cheats for that but it's not worth it
there's absolutely zero reward for completing the dex

I never did beat this one as a kid either. I got to Hazel's world and got stuck before returning my rental. It was the first game that I ever saw that gave me a PAL Language option. I remember chosing français before starting the game ever and getting really weirded out by Bugs' voice and had to have my dad check out what was wrong with the game lol.
Anyways, I finally beat the final boss in Haunting Starring Polterguy on the Genesis last year. It took me 29 years and I wasn't even actively trying to beat him. Those are the best types of game victories IMO.

I loved this game as a kid but I was also fucking awful at it. I made maps but perhaps I wasn't attentive enough to detail on them since I would always end up with a fucked up layout and ultimately get lost.
Recently in the last few months replayed it but the Super Famicom version (with all the improvements turned off to play like the Apple2/Dos version) and finally made my way to Werdna.
Was actually one of the most fun gaming experiences I've had in quite some time.

I should've specified I didn't just have Red only
>Caught everything in Red (Charmander)
>Started Blue (Squirtle), traded it to Red, leveled it up to Blastoise for the dex entries, taught it Surf & Strength and traded it back to power through for the exclusives, another Eevee and the second fossil
>Rushed Yellow up to Celadon to get Bulbasaur and a third Eevee
The only annoying parts were catching shit like Chansey, Kangaskhan and Tauros, and levelling up everything.

Same here. For me it was those missiles he throws out. I just couldn't find a way to avoid them. As an adult I finally realized they slow down if you zig zag.

After finishing college I went back home and collected my stuff including this game. I decided to give it another shot and beat it within the hour.

I did manage to beat this one as a kid but it took me years. Loved the pirate and medieval levels but fucking hated the space ones, I swear they were designed to cause acrophobia and the space race was pure heart-attack-inducing evil.
The bugs and taz game was easier but more enjoyable imo.

>>10849090
>>10849186
I refuse to replay crash bash to this day. Fuck that shit. I think I never unlocked the last medieval game.
Honestly the most fun thing about it was the future crate level were you could create holes and then push others into them. It was hilarious how often your rivals would just kill themselves in stupid ways. Polar bears and tanks were fun too but for the most part the game was frustrating and made me feel like I should be playing ctr or the trilogy instead.

I bought yellow from a friend and used to think about the best way to get a complete Pokedex if I had access to the other versions. Was never that into the handheld Pokemon games to get the others, but I'm glad to hear there's a feasible route like that.

iktf. my first time playing it I legitimately thought the game was just as good if not better than the previous Crash games up until the third warp, after which it rapidly goes to shit. It's a damn shame, because the game does have some really fun parts like Space Bash.

This game never really rocked my world as a kid. Only recently beat it, and I have to say that this game is so underrated. Asked to think the game felt kind of clunky, but I feel like the way the game controls adds a lot to the overall gameplay.
Also, this game get so much harder than I would have had patience for as a kid.
