By IX the audience was fed to death of the goofy gunblade emo cgi demos, it was novelty with VII, for a while, then it was stupid. IMO the series didn't go back to its roots until XV, even the numbering is stupid at this point and the franchise survives amply on retarded peer group identification alone, not quality.
