Loads of Mac games from the 68k and PPC eras used the native Macintosh UI elements for menus not just launchers but also stuff like settings or even starting a new game, often if you opened the menu it'd overlay on top of the game itself
This is especially annoying if you're a Mac noob since the only way to open those menus in a fullscreen application is a keyboard shortcut. Many games even hide their Quit button in these menus for some reason. What did classic Mac devs have against integrating proper fullscreen menus directly into their applications?

Castle of the Winds

I remember playing the first episode of this as a shareware demo, and how the game let you set any windows Icon as your avatar. I had set an icon from a game that had come with one of the many games pre-packaged with my computer because it was hilarious to me back then to play as what looked like a mouse splattered against the screen.

Great game. Cousin left it at my grandma's and she let us borrow it (the floppy). I remember watching my brother with my sister play this game. The entrance to the dungeon filtered us for a minute. We couldn't figure out how to move diagonally because we were using the keyboard. Had to call grandma, who called our cousin, to tell us that we needed to click and drag, lol. Good times. The second one is awesome. This series has all the goodies. Great gear, great lore, awesome graphics. Love it.

VBA in Microsoft Office programs like Excel is one of the easiest ways to create a basic game if you don't have much experience with programming. You can probably create something like >>10841323 in VBA using the Form Designer. But with more advanced graphics like in the OP picture it's probably best to use something else. Excel workbooks and stuff aren't the nicest way to distribute programs though so I wouldn't make anything big using VBA

Winforms is somewhat easy too, if you know a bit of C#, or any Visual Studio language. Winforms is a bit of a dated technology now but it looks a lot like a lot of the pictures in this thread. Most of the games in this thread kind of look like they're using regular Winforms style default OS controls, then some of the games might also be using a canvas for drawing more intricate graphics, like the picture in the OP

Sort of. It wouldn't have the same feel to it because the OS would render it differently now, picrel is what a basic windows desktop app from windows forums (windows gui library released in 2002) would look like today
I assume it'd be easier to use a more advanced tech and style it to look older. Like here's some demos of windows-98 like UI in a modern webbrowser
