Shit you didn’t know.

For example, “Blinx” wasn’t just an edgy name they picked at random. A mix between a Bobcat and Lynx is actually called a “Blynx”.

The various ports of Resident Evil add 2nd alternate costumes to the characters because, despite the og only having 1 extra costume per character, the system for 2 extra costumes was already in place, programmed in, and all they to do was edit the texture.

A prototype version has early / temp 2nd alternate costumes and there is a doodle of Mega Man in place of Chris'. Looking at the credits, most likely the dev who doodled this Resident Evil was his first job and then went on to work on some Mega Man games.

Another interesting Resident Evil costume fact: the GameCube version of RE3 is a port of the PC version, but which also uses some data from the PSX original and gimped the PC version bonuses. Despite not being accessible in the game, the 2 extra costumes from the PC version are in the files.

On top of this is a third costume. The naming of the file indicates that it was made/intended for the PC ports, yet doesn't exist in the final retail PC versions. However the file can be used, as-in, simply by renaming it, in the PC versions of the game.

doesn't make any sense given that Coco is playable in the game. My guess is that Mark Cerny was just too intimidated by a kangaroo with tits.

Plant 42 from Resident Evil is named after Plant 42 at Edwards AFB. A bunch of black projects like the U2, SR-71, B2 bomber, etc. came out of there. It came up a lot in the whole 90s X Files/conspiracy culture that the first game drew inspiration from.

"Doki Doki Panic" was originally developed by Nintendo as a game to tie in with the Yume Kōjō '87 event in Japan. However, when Nintendo decided to release it internationally as "Super Mario Bros. 2," they replaced the characters with Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach to make it fit within the Mario universe. This decision was made because the original Japanese version of "Super Mario Bros. 2" was deemed too difficult for international audiences, so "Doki Doki Panic" was adapted instead.

Iroha, the voluptuous Ninja Maid from Samurai Spirits / Samurai Shodown, is named after a Japanese poem:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iroha
The poem is one of the most important in Japan's history. It is a "pangram", a phrase that contains every letter in a language's alphabet, such as "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog". Iroha however is a PERFECT pangram- it contains every letter exactly once.
The poem is a Buddhist prayer about not becoming distracted by fleeting beauty. The word "Iroha" means "dazzling petals".
Because it contains each letter exactly once, it was used as the alphabetical order of Japanese for centuries. Because of this, the word "Iroha" is also used to mean "ABCs" or "101"- the basics of a subject.

>The PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 was originally going to be released as the Neo Famicom/Neo NES and the only differences between Hudson's pitch to Nintendo and what got released by NEC was that the DAC was separate from the PPU so it had a proper 21-Bit address bus so rom carts (not Hu-Cards, actual battery back up rom cartridges) can be 4MB (2MB PNG and 2MB CHR), 2 background layers (up from the PC Engine's 1), 1 window layer (PC Engine had no window layer), 128 16x16 sprites (double that of the PC Engine) and more ram (256KB work ram (PC Engine was severely cut down to 8KB unless you're using the Super CD-Rom2 format) and 128KB video ram (double that of the PC Engine)); Nintendo ended up rejecting Hudson's hardware in favor of continuing working on their own 16-Bit hardware so NEC got the PC Engine instead; also alot of pin of the pins on the Hu6280 were left unused because they were designed for Nintendo's own controller/hardware standard.

>The Miracle Piano was going to see a release in Japan as the Miracle Famicom but this never got a Japanese release due to low sales in the west.
>A Famicom with wireless RF controllers was planed known as the Air/Wave Famicom was planed but was rejected.
>A Super NES with NES backwards compatibility known as the Multi Famicom was made and used a first party NOAC chip with proper RGBS support, this never came out due to no PAL version of the chip was made but it would've cost a extra $100 more then the base Super NES.
>Strip down cost reduced Famicoms known as One's Famicom (a Famicom with the built in controllers removed and everything relied on the 15-Pin expansion port, even removing the audio pin in favor of Player 1 D0 so that all Famicom games can work with the 15-Pin expansion port) and My Famicom (A Famicom with built in controllers) were made to combat the PC-Engine but they were rejected in favor of focusing on the Super Famicom.
