So I just buy Wizardry 6+7 and I'm completely new to this series. Any tips, mods, etc...

The beginning of 6 is quite confusing. All I'll say is that the first step to getting further is finding L'Montes. I'll let you figure out what to do from then on. Anyway, the game is pretty damn linear, so if you get stuck, the answer is usually somewhere nearby (or you can ignore it for now and the answer will practically fall into your hands on its own)
Bards are OP, esp. in Wiz 6. If you want an easy game, get a bard.
Class changing is a good way to break the games completely.
Save often. Very often.
There's a DOSbox modification out there that decreases the audio popping in case you find it annoying.
