That's not a real console. It's just the child of the gb and the snes. Any good thing of the gba is from the gb or the snes.

I find it hard to believe you really thought it was the best. Even then most of the games felt way too simple.

It has some solid titles, zelda la, mario land 2 and pokemon make it a must have console. Now, best retro console is going too far, even though you can make the argument that handhelds are more entertaining for children.

Ohh I've played the fuck out of Gameboy and got one around the same time you did. The FF Legend games are quite good, but Tetris was still possibly the best game on the system because most were pretty damn bare bones. Kirby was fun but I also beat it the first time I turned it on and even the hardmode was easy. Gameboy color picked things up some, but in general usually playing it I was wishing I could have been playing something else.

This game was an absolutely perfect example of my feelings here >>10820669 being a Castlevania fan and that turd being what we got handheld sucked. Gargoyle's Quest was cool though, it did have good games but was almost always a disappointment. Mortal Kombat was vaguely fun just for how abysmally bad it was.

Why can't nintendrones see the quality of the gameboys diverse and long track record? It's always n64 this, oot that, when the Gameboy is actually worthy of such suckling.

I like it a lot! It goes straight to the point
I really love the Donkey Kong Land series because they're a lot more finicky and harder than the SNES games, people hate them because of the graphics and the even more precise controls but I love it
I also really like Wario Land, GB is very good! Too bad there are literally 0 good fighting games in it

>> No.10820957

GBC was the best, a much comfier and more compact form factor that didn't mess too much with the original.

Gameboy can't be the best. I like it a lot but too many games feel like lesser versions of what you'd get elsewhere and generally all games have lower skill ceiling too. I guess that's why zoomers are so obsessed with their retro handhelds, they're games designed to be easy so they can actually play them without crying about muh artificial difficulty.

Well that was the smart thing. Tomb Raider very much was PoP in 3D before there was a 3D version of it. So then a 2D Tomb Raider plays and looks a lot like old 3D PoP.

GB was such a strange gaming platform. Some devs took it seriously, and put in a lot of effort into making games that were both fun and worked well with the nature of the GB's screen. Other devs treated it as a budget also-ran console they only supported since the game didn't warrant an NES/SNES release, or a cheap cross-platform port of an NES/SNES game since the games were cheap to produce. And a small list of devs decided the GB was the perfect platform for experimental games since it was cheap to make games for.
Where else were you seeing a 16-player FPS on a handheld console in the mid-90s?

Ever play Mysterium? It's a first-person dungeon crawler, on the surface. In reality, it's a game about alchemy, and trying to figure out what item getting dropped into what chemical will result in the items you want.
Mario's Picross shouldn't have worked, but went on to become a moderately popular series.
X was Argonaut games bringing over their 3D trickery to the GB.
And I already mentioned Faceball, being a 3D FPS game on the GB that supports 16 players at once.
