What are your favorite SNES and Game Boy games?

I really enjoy the Crash trilogy, Mega Man X4 and X5, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, but the PS1 library is basically endless. It also got enhanced ports of a lot of Super Famicom games, like the Parodius series, Cotton 100%, Umihara Kawase, Mickey Mania, Soccer Kid, etc. If you want something like Mario or DKC, Crash Bandicoot is a good place to start.

MGS 1 is its best game.
Alone in the Dark: Jack's is Back is a one of its hidden gems.

What genres do you enjoy?

RPGs? Easily one of the final fantasy games. 7 or 9. If you don't like those try Legend of Dragoon. Beyond the Beyond is a traditional one if you liked SNES/GB types. Valkyrie Profile was unique and I loved it. Really the PS1 had a lot of great rpgs.

Parasite Eve 1 and 2 are good games that are kind of hybrids between tank-control shooters and rpgs

Speaking of shooters where the character controls like a tank: Resident Evil 1-3 are good. My favorite of the bunch was probably 3 but 2 is real close.

Crash and Spyro games are all good. Crash Team Racing is a great cart racer if you want to try something that isn't mario kart.

For Fighting games you can't go wrong with Tekken. 3 being the best by far. I have a soft spot for Bushido Blade 2.

Tactical RPGs? Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre are both excellent. Front Mission 3 if you like mechs.

Other great games include Metal Gear Solid, Tenchu 1 and 2, Legacy of Kain, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, and Einhander.

No, not at all the case for the PSX. It's a really idiosyncratic console in this way, there's a ton of 'treasure' in the form of experimental games you can absolutely fall in love with but which aren't universally praised, it has a real plethora of gems that can easily be argued to be much better than its most popular titles.

Conversely, you might find its most lauded games aren't at all to your taste, you might see FFVII or MGS as glorified moviegames for weebs, or Crash 1 as a fairly primitive and unrefined platformer. There seems to be enormous room for personal preference in regard to which games you consider its more important, so it's almost the polar opposite of the N64 with its dozen or so undisputed classics.

Untrue, there are many consoles without a consensus for the best games, and you mentioned two of them: Saturn and Mega Drive. Any console with a games library with depth will have this. It's almost exclusively a problem with Nintendo consoles that are sorely lacking in depth, such as the GameCube, N64, and SNES, where there is a solidified indisputable consensus on the top ten games, because beyond those top games, there's nothing else worth playing.

That's simply not true. It was codenamed the PS-X by Sony themselves and its usage dates back to even before the release of the console itself. Consumers and media used "PSX" during its entire lifespan. The websites "PSXPower" and "PSXNation"(an early branch of IGN) were both created in 1997. Pic related is a screenshot of Gamefaqs in February of 2000 and they used PSX as the standard for abbreviation.

It's been PSX the entire time when anyone abbreviated it. I have no idea why anyone tries to argue otherwise.

What kind of history revision retardation is this? My very first internet exposure was in 1993. In a middle school classroom. In public. It wasn't some kind of super sekrit nerd club. I was using AOL when I was 10 in the 90's. Tons of kids were. The majority of my high school grade used the internet by 1998. The bulk of internet users in the 90's were adults and kids posing as adults hanging out in location based dating chatrooms spamming ASL and trading fake(usually nude) pics of "themselves". IE those "Ohio Male looking for Female" chatrooms that AOL had a million of.

There were plenty of normies on the internet even in the 90's. There was never a period of time on the internet where nerds were the majority. The main difference between then and now is that technology has become a mainstream interest rather than something only dedicated nerds are into. So rather than strictly being users of technology like they were in the 90's, normies have become adept in many aspects of the internet space and are arguably even more internet proficient than modern geeks are.

That anon is an idiot, but it's not hard to explain or understand.
>There were plenty of normies on the internet even in the 90's.
It wasn't a critical mass of people, though. Kids using it at school were often quite limited or monitored. Adults surfed the web consuming amateur content and spreading rumors through small communities. No matter what your definition of "normie" is, internet use in the 90s was still very low compared to what was to come. This was true in terms of number of people online, time spent online, and amount of content available online.

During the early 2000s, the internet became exponentially more influential. I still remember a dialog from Season One of West Wing (1999) where the characters are discussing damage control for an imminent scandal involving their Chief of Staff. The story was "already out on the internet" meaning they had another 8 hours before it actually hit the "real" news cycle. Within 5ish years you'd never see a line like that, the distinction between the internet and the "real" media disappeared in that timeframe.
