This is the best all around controller for retro gaming

This, Series controller is far superior. And I say that as someone who doesn't own a Series console or any Xbox for that matter and uses that controller to play on PC and on PS2 through Blueretro.

I don't know which one's more pathetic between that device and the actual PS Portal, actually. At least that chink knockoff has some local storage and can play games offline.
How far we've degenerated from the times of PSP and PS Vita makes me fucking sad.

Playing Ps1/2 with one of these using the bluetooth adapter rocks. Particularly enjoyed Gran Turismo 3 where it seems like they programmed more rumble data than DualShock2 was capable of representing. With a DualSense you get a very vivid range of rumbles corresponding to different terrain, engine, and tire conditions. I was really surprised by it. I will note however that hitting Squall's blade trigger feels a lot less satisfying. The full throttle DualShock rumble is superior for that case.

I know that this is most likely bait, but I'll reply seriously anyway because I'm sure there are people who actually believe that.
Whether D-pad is above or below the left analog stick ultimately matters less than what kind of D-pad it is.
The first one is largely a matter of preference and what the person in question is used to, the latter has the potential to contain some objective qualities.
Unlike with handhelds, the ergonomics of a controller are always constructed so that you can reach both the left analog stick and the D-pad with ease. The angle between those two is just more natural because controller designers don't have to make compromises.
Just like you say that the D-pad is in the wrong place I could say that the left analog stick is in the wrong place because I prefer my thumbs to be symmetric when I play 3D action games.
>inb4 3D is not retro
3D games exploded during the 5th and 6th gens, which is half of the time frame of this board. No one cares about 2nd gen and below. Not to mention that even some 2D games are better played with an analog stick than a D-pad, like shmups.

The Series controller D-pad has qualities that make it objectively better than the PS5 D-pad. It uses microswitches instead of membrane, which gives it less actuation time and more precise and noticeable tactile and audio feedback. Well, I'll give you that the last one is not a pure positive because there's a chance you play with headphones on and don't want to piss off nearby people with the sounds of your D-pad, but that's a rare use case scenario. The fact that rubber over membrane persisted in controllers for so long that some people now prefer it because "it gives them retro feel" is a travesty. Controllers where the objective while designing them was different than to make the cheapest possible piece of shit that was still acceptable to the average consumer always used microswitches, arcade sticks for instance.

It's true. With shmups you end up doing circular motions more often than not anyway, so a stick is better.

Funny enough the whole "d-pad in wrong area" specifically applies to the analog stick being the primary input method over d-pad. For someone who plays a lot of retro/2D games, the D-pad placement is perfect

Not that anon but shmups do have a lot of diagonal movement and are usually designed to be played with an arcade stick (not exactly the same as an analog stick but still), some also prefer using it for fighting games since they also require a lot of circular motion

This is a good point actually. Official console controllers were not the original controllers in most games ported from arcades anyway. And it's not like all arcade machines were the same either. A single arcade game could be present on a number of different machine types that only shared the mainboard. The exact arcade stick and button types between those could be wildly different.

If you're playing a 1st person title, or a 2D title, it's indeed the best, but for 3rd person 3D stuff, an asymmetrical layout feels better.

Still, it's ideal for 2 use cases and less than ideal in just 1, while asymmetrical controllers are the opposite, and by default it's a better all rounder than anything without analogs, so I agree, OP.

No it doesn't. You are the nigger that doesn't know the hardware but this isn't retro related but still if you want to play horizon forbidden west (I don't) or any PlayStation 5 titles on pc you need to wire the ps5 controller to your pc otherwise you won't get all the new features it offers
It doesn't just send those via Bluetooth
Works on ps5 but not on pc
Do your research but why would a nigga like you be able to read in the first place
