Mars3D is a taiwanese Doom clone made back in 1997, you need to mount a CD and use some Doxbox wizardry to makie the game work

Here's the gameplay of it, for those who have not seen it yet


The game is in .mad format, which surprisingly looked similar to a WAD file being just renamed, but it took more than just renaming the file to revert it back to its regular state, so a Phyton script was made to crack it

Someone in the zdoom forums requested support for the game, and yet we still have to confirm if this is an edited IWAD.

If you use this instead then all midi system-wide can use the soundfonts. You should try both SGM and SC-55.

Hey, you. So the Bassmidi option on the Foobar plugin? It also supports .sflist files, which are just UTF-8 plaintext files that load soundfonts.

1. Download the fluidsynth.dll from the Q&A pastebin. Put it into your ZDoom folder.
2. Download a soundfont, try the SGM one. Put the .sf2 file into your ZDoom folder.
3. Open zdoom-user.ini in Notepad. Search for fluid_patchset. Paste the filename of it here. Caps matter.
4. Run ZDoom. Switch the midi output to fluidsynth. The midi should restart as you cycle through music engines, you shouldn't have to restart anything.

It's an E1M1 replacement that's apparently the start of a 36 level wad. I'm sure that'll happen.

Was mostly just a set of small, boring rooms filled with zombies and imps. Only secret is a really obvious shotgun closet.

I don't even necessarily have an issue with big areas in Doom maps, but fucking look at this. Look how barren it is.

Also, those guardtowers have chaingunners on them, so as you're approaching Fort Tenesmus(?), you're taking a lot of chip damage.

I'm assuming the barren wasteland is so you have room to manuever around these two Cyberdemons, but it's still way too much room given how tightly you can circlestrafe, and there's a guardtower right next to them with an Invulsphere so it's not like you're ever in any real danger dealing with them.

And of course the inside of the fort is just as overly large as most of the rest of the map, so even though there's literally two rooms just like this, the imps don't exactly pose a threat. The ending is just two Mancubi guarding the exit switch, one of whom couldn't seem to attack me, but that might've been because I saw them so far off I could easily rocketspam them to death.

I fucked up and didn't grab a picture of the intermission, but I got 3/5 secrets; one was a really obvious walldoor, then there was an obvious lift in that room, and, for some bizarre reason, there's a random section of floor you essentially /have/ to walk over past the lift that counts as a secret.

Tl;dr: kind of impressive for 1995, but still pretty shit.

Here's something that's been bugging me when I replay Doom... In E2M8, the cyberdemon always gets stuck in one of the ammo rooms. When I was a kid I don't remember this happening so much. Now it's literally every time I play that level. Was the pathfinding different in the earlier releases, or is it a sourceport thing, or was I just luckier as a kid. Because that just takes all the fun I had in the level.

--Edited warrior woman corpse sprite so there isn't a ghost standing there that looks like a living player
--Added "You're too slow!" taunt for sonic
--Changed Shrek skin so it doesn't spam sound clips when falling or attempting to open things, also changed the taunt to the "swamp" sound clip.
--Slightly increased the scaling on several skins so that they're the same height as the doom marine sprite and aren't cheat skins

Yeah so, UBERGUITARV loaded after SC-55 goes a long way towards fixing the weak guitars inherent in SC-55. As I said, e1m8 is fucking awesome, and so is d_runnin. Unfortunately, e1m9 and d_dead are Goddamn balls and I'm not sure why, there's probably other songs that have ruined sections to them unfortunately.

What would be really nice would be a way to just add a drumset that isn't a bag of dicks on top of SGM instead. It took me a while to track down the guitar soundfont as it was though.

Repping the freedoom guy, best minigun-pistol

Now I noticed that there were some people struggling and getting salty, so I figure I can drop my config for others to toy with here. It's got shit like automatic SR-50 if you're interested.

Personally, I had a lot of trouble landing shots until I started raising my sensitivity, so try higher sensitivities and see if you start landing more hits. Doom's more about reaction time than pinpoint precision, so it makes sense.

Oh and the biggest thing is with the SSG, it's predict > aim > fire, I'm seeing dudes just trying to follow people with the mouse while holding M1.

So I came up with a mockup of what I want. I'm opting for more of a espionage/survival horror theme with her versus a military space marine, since those are already overly abundant. I did a lot of searching for outfits that might look cool and I found a really cool leather coat, but I'm betting getting the reflections animated correctly is going to be a hurdle.

Gave it a few tests. Spamming the super shotgun seems to be the most effective method, since the default shotgun can't seem to keep up with large groups very well. The plasmagun seems to rip through them pretty effectively, though.

Of course, those tests were in an effectively flat area without any other enemies, and they were all kind of clumped together; I'd say if you spaced them out and threw in, say, a couple arachnotrons or something, or basically anything that'd keep you moving and taking cover without shooting the swampguys, then you'd run into issues.

Beyond the fact that I renamed the dummy items which the monster sends when he dies and the ones he keeps track to revive their comrades, nope, they're similar.

Psh, no problem. I'd also say that, unless there's only like two of them, you're basically fucked if you've only got the pistol. But that's practically a given.

The rocket launcher also presents some interesting complications; you invariably have to be fairly far away to not take splash damage, but the explosion seems to give some of them a nice shove to split up crowds, making it harder to kill them all at once, which could get even more hectic if it's a mixed crowd.

Shit, provided I had any idea how to get custom monsters working in Doombuilder, I'd probably scrape together a map or two just to mess with them, honestly. They're a pretty clever idea.

vrskins_3.3.wad has been compiled, it now includes >>1081157 and >>1081434 as well as Mike12's Tyris sprites and Tyris sounds from another contributor who I can't remember atm (sorry!)

There are a couple of larger than normal and smaller than normal skins in the pack as is, and a few duplicate or very similar skins. There are also probably 2many skins overall (it's sitting at 64mb right now.) That should be fixed by 3.4 which should be out sometime soon, I just gotta go through and decide what to remove and probably make sound files smaller too.

I'm a little torn here, should I use the original arrow keys+ctrl controls, or a WASD+mouse config like this? And if I use WASD+mouse, should I enable jumping and crouching? Yes, this is my first time playing Doom, feel free to ridicule me

You should disable crouch and jump because it can break some maps.
Freelooking can also break some maps but its less of a big deal and its really about if you want to play with freelook or not.
I like it better with freelook because im used to it.

Use whatever you want, but as >>1086425 this guy says you're probably going to want to unbind jumping and crouching. There's WADs that use it, but the IWADS and a lot of others didn't intend for you to be able to do those things.
