This might qualify as the last retro video game period.

>> No.10785313

It's such a luxurious game. Feels like they completed the game well ahead of schedule and then polished it even more with more and more bonus modes and artworks.

Eh, I mean... if that was the case they would give every new character a unique move set instead of Xianghua being a copy of Hwang, Lizardman being a copy of Sophitia, Kilik being a copy of Seung Mina, Astaroth being a copy of Rock, Siegfried being a copy of Nightmare and Inferno being a copy of Edge Master. Yes, some of those have lore justifications but that doesn't really change much in my opinion.

III is the best SC entry to date if you play a version with major bugs fixed.

>Heihachi effortlessly blocks Raphael's sneak attack from behind his back
>Spawn calmly observes Raphael before deciding to confront him
>Link jumps around like a faggot and almost gets killed by Raphael

But that's not Soul Blade.

Also imagine resting before you've wreaked vengeance for your father.

It's less inspiring

Something about SC1 is just more impressive than the sequels. The characters stand out more on screen, the animations seem to be punchier, the sound effects and music seem much more defined.

It also felt more enjoyable to control to me.

That too. SC2 and beyond feel sluggish in comparison.

Those graphics were really impressive for the time. It also gave the impression that the Dreamcast had way better hardware than the PS2.
The sequels were good but weren't such a graphical upgrade from the first one.

IMO SC II looks worse than both SC I and SC III. By SC III they learned how to take advantage of additional polygons really well while SC II just feels like one of the many transitional 6th gen games, with SC I being more of a 5.5th gen game (it debuted on PS1-based hardware).

>>10788436
I don't think SC II is sluggish. Quite the contrary, it has more stringent reaction time requirements than SC I or SC III.

>>10788420
I personally think that SC I is the easiest out of the four /vr/ entries, SC I on Ultra Hard is still easier for me to play than SC II on Normal. Only once I got to Mission Mode "post-game" (missions 3 and 4 for each area that unlock after defeating Inferno and getting my character's ending) it got decently challenging.

Funny how Siegfried only got any sort of positive characterization after turning into Nightmare. If you play through his Edge Master mode, he's a total piece of shit.
>defends a nobleman's castle just to gain his trust to betray him, kill him and steal his sword
>attacks Sophitia for daring to suggest that he needs help and ransacks her temple
>kills Rock while he whispers the name of his son just to drive the point home
>gets possessed INSTANTLY after picking Soul Edge, whereas it probably took a few months for it to possess Hwang considering he manages to go back to Korea
Of course he probably does even worse shit as Nightmare in SC I but it's all off-screen and never mentioned explicitly. He also has a few lines that make him seem like less of a total psycho like "There's no turning back..." to Sophitia or "You still ask for more?" to Inferno. And once he goes back to Siegfried, he becomes an unambiguously good character whose goal is the redemption for his sins. It really seems like killing his own father completely mindbroke him for a time during Soul Blade in retrospect.
