What is /vr/'s experience with PCEWorks? I'm getting into the PC-Engine and it's nearly impossible to tell a legit Rondo from a repro. So should I bite the bullet and buy their stuff? I normally never buy any repros but if their product is nearly indistinguishable from the real thing, why pay more? It's annoying that they've duped the secondhand market but has anyone here embraced it and actually bought their stuff?

Do not buy their shit, do not support them. Burn the game or get a Turbo EverDrive Pro or Super SD System thing. Bootlegs are bootlegs, they are worth nothing beyond material they're made of. Do not pay for "premium" bootlegs.

the discs are around $30 each if you order from him directly
i got a few "freebie" items as well thrown in
the discs themselves and manuals are VERY nice (which is what you are paying for)

yes you could just get a turbo everdrive or sdsystem for more "value"
but having a handful of your favorite games is worth it in my opinion

many PCE cd discs for originals are still reasonable on ebay do some digging
check auctions often etc

and you must burn VERY slowly
also the rips you get are likely shittier than 1:1 iso copies of your own disc images but the gap on that has closed by a considerable margin since the early 2000s when i was burning

I don't really get these threads. What info are you lacking to make your decision? If you're fine with "repros", why not? It's the equivalent of buying a fake louis vuitton bag. Also, as mentioned above, cheap CDRs will ruin your drive - so better be safe than sorry in that department.

I don’t understand this, how do you know the bootleg media is any better than a Verbatim CD-R? Thread is full of people in on the scam or being completely fleeced paying $30 for a burned CD.

That's apparently true for the TG-16. When I did some research for how to burn for the Analogue Duo (some programs just didn't work, that's it), there were infos I found in old remaining forums that the CD drive for those old consoles are extremely picky. They had to be burnt at a very low speed (not possible anymore for modern drives), and you had to buy specific CD brands for best burning success or it wouldn't read

You can tell but only on close inspection. The colors and typesetting are off, and you can one hundred percent tell by looking at the stamp on the inner spindle.

came from the early dreamcast era when gdi rips were getting compressed\data moved on the disc
so it would "wear" the laser out faster because the little motor would have to work "harder" to get to the data access points on the disc

many tards killed their system trying to play "snes on dreamcast lol" as the poor little sega systems shit themselves trying to access all that (poorly optimized) data
