Does anybody remember Sega Channel?
Streaming full games for 14.95 a month with unlimited access in 1994. 1990's Sega was so BASED. Also general 1990's sega love thread.

Atari 2600 had downloadable games. Nintendo had the BS-X before Sega channel as well. It's not that unique or groundbreaking

>SEGA

Ha, that's cute.

You mean Nintendo was playing "catch up to SEGA and rip off their ideas"? Who would have ever though?

Atari download didn't support any games from Atari, Mattel, Coleco, and Activision or any other decent developer. Purchases would also time out after a week.

I think I spent my entire 1995 summer playing Seca Channel and Rise of The Triad.

At the time, the Sega Channel was the only way for the US to play Pulseman.

I had Sega Channel when I was younger but I had forgot what it was called and for years I would ask all my friends if they knew what I was talking about and everyone thought I was crazy.

How many Sega Channel exclusives are extinct now, unreleased on any other media? Is there a definitive list?

>> No.1077675

>>1077514
From what I know the exclusives were just games from other regions they never bothered to localize like Golden Axe 3. Though I do think there was a multiplayer puzzle game for it.

IIRC Sega Channel was available only in the US, Japan and.... argentina. Maybe some other country too.

I'm from that argentina, and I remember the TV ads. I didn't give a fuck. I was already downloading roms and playing them on GenEm at 5kb/s off Node99.

I remember reading the later-founder of AOL also did a startup proto-internet around Atari 2600 where you could shop, stream music (not digitally I assume) and buy and sell stocks.

All from different carts I imagine.

Actually there were Sega channel games that were "new levels" and stuff for existing games. I can't remember what they are right now though.

Did anyone bothered to crack the way this thing work? To me it looks like a flashcart with an integrated modem so I always wanted to get one just to check if I could use it as such.

It was available in chile, bolivia and brazil too.

If you shut it off or lost power you lost the game.
Wikipedia says it 4MB DRAM. Not exactly a 'flash' cart but similar idea.
