Just picked up one these bad boys
It's already set up, I just need to recommendations for games to chuck on.
Bonus points if its homebrew.

>> No.10761447

didn't you have games in mind before you bought this?

I did, but just the common ones because I haven't played retro in ages.
Thought I'd make this thread for recommendations for games that I might not be aware of.

I just pulled the organs out of my original Gameboy and replaced them with an RPi. Best decision I ever made.

Well the pi zero isn't a powerhouse it can still be decent at emulation so i was looking for general recomendations NES/SNES/MD/etc
Thanks for the recomendations though, I add them to it right now.

No bullshit, I was actually going to do the same for one of my old broken gameboy pockets but went this route when I saw it on ebay for 80 bucks. It had internal battery mod (You have to use AA batteries on the stock unit) so I just went "why the fuck not?" and just bought that instead of fucking around stuffing a PI in one of my old broken gameboys.
Mind posting a pic, I'd love to see how it turned out, I love seeing projects like that.

Am I missing some autistic drama between /vr/ and retroflag?
I'm not gonna shill but, I get exactly what I wanted from this without the hassle of diying it myself.
Legitimately just wanted a small handheld that I can just carry around when I want to play retro vidya.
I was originally going to go the route of installing apocket pi fe in my old broken gb pocket but, I couldn't find any in stock.
I did some digging for alternatives and found a GPI case 1 (with a rechargable battery mod installed) for under a hundred bucks. and just went that route instead.
The only limit I have is that it came with a zero 1 instead of the 2w version.
It's not a powerhouse of emulation but, since I've got a switch and a gaming pc i'd just use either of those if there really was a game I HAD to play.
Despite that, it's still pretty versatile for emulation >>10761506 (Pic related)

uhhh incase you missed it, there's a handheld general that talks about cheap portable handhelds that can emulate a lot of consoles now which are way better than the one you got.

>> No.10763353

>>10762082
I've already got a switch with android 10 installed, if I wanted power, I'd just use that.
I know you can get decently powerful powerful handhelds for the cheap, but I've already got a switch for most stuff and just wanted
For me, the GPI is perfect for what it is, and if I REALLY need to play more resource intensive games on the thing, I can easily just upgrade the pi to a pi 2 or a newer unit if one comes out.
Also, I find it easier to deal with a PI than fucking around trying to customize chinese trash to how I like it.

Just get full romsets for all of the cartridge consoles, maybe a handful of SEGA CD and Turbo CD games until you have enough space to store them as well

Always thought this was a cool handheld, just slightly out of my range

i bought a cm4 like three years ago with the intention of throwing one in a gpi case 2 but when i joined their discord, even their main community members were saying it's sorta shitty

i still kinda want one and think id be cool with what it is, but that initial discord peek really killed the buzz for me

the pspi6 project may be worth putting my cm4 toward though

I hate the term 'homebrew', such hipster faggotry. Call it what it is, amateur software.

That's what I'm doing that with my switch running Android 10 with Daijsho (Fuck I love the ui) and my Gaming pc.
They've both got pretty much every pre-5th gen romset.
I'd go the route of using romsets on the GPI but I'd rather not to be honest. I'd rather put games that I'm actually gonna play rather than just scoll through thousands of games I'm not gonna play. I had that issue when I built my bartop arcade and just went the "best of" route to make the game list less cluttered with shit.

Wait, do you mean the CM4, or the GPI case?
If it's the GPI case, I can kinda see where there going because the way they have the L+R buttons on it is kinda clunky desu
If you have big hands, pressing them gets awkward if you have to press a face button at the same time.
It's not a dealbreaker from my experience since it's still serviceable, but yea if, the pspi6 is defiantly a great route.
I would've done that but I don't have a psp 1000 to gut.
>i still kinda want one and think id be cool with what it is, but that initial discord peek really killed the buzz for me

Yea to be honest, out ot the two the pspi6 is the better since bigger screen, more comfortable and cm4 compatible.

the gpi case being a bit shitty yes

i'm so used to chinkheld company-specific discords being flooded with coping shills thinking their purchase is incredible but the retroflag discord had people borderline turning people around kek, not like aggressively or anything but it was odd enough that it deterred me

recent chinkhelds generally btfo the cm4 in terms of power now too, but i appreciate the form factor and premise retroflag went for

but yes pspi6 seems more worthwhile, and the potential carrier board upgrade to take other pi's in the future like a hypothetical cm5 may give it some longevity

Can the pi0 run SotN? I'm sure this has shoulder buttons. Even with 2 you can run most of the game easy, you'll just have to change the transform buttons every so often.

Ngl, that's fucking hilarious that the official discord's users are doing that.
>recent chinkhelds generally btfo the cm4 in terms of power now too, but i appreciate the form factor and premise retroflag went for
Yea same, the face buttons feel 1:1 to the original gameboy however, I do feel went overboard on the authenticity.
It would've been better off if they went for more a conventional shoulder button style.
>>10763731
Not on the original (Which I have) You'd need the pi 0 2w.
But since the GPI case doesn't have L1/L2, it'd be pointless to try anyway.
I'd rather just use my switch anyway.
