Super Monkey Ball series and Sonic Gems Collection are pretty good. Same with F=Zero GX and Billy Hatcher. TTYD is also a fun time

Do you prefer Monkey Ball 1 or 2?

Give the first one a shot sometime then. The level design is simpler compared to 2 (and I'm pretty sure a handful of it's levels were re-used in Jr.) but it's still a pretty solid game. Also Monkey Golf in the first game is just mini golf compared to 2 having regular golf.

As far as actual exclusives?
Kirby Air Ride
Super Monkey Ball (1 and 2 ideally but if you have to get one just get 2)
Super Mario Sunshine
Mario Party 5
Pikmin (same as Monkey Ball)
Custom Robo
Melee
Star Wars Rebel Strike
F-Zero GX
Sonic Adventure (same as Monkey ball)
Double Dash

I have many hours in all of those games.

NTA but imo 2 is better. The stages are more consistent and there's more of them iirc but the big thing is there's more party games which is honestly what this game excels at. There is nothing quite so kino as 4 friends all on GameCube together all day.

I think 4 6 and 7 weren't as soulful as 5 and I have a specific nostalgia for 5. it's completely subjective. this is a comfy thread after all .

here's the best I can justify it
4 is too early and feels more like an N64 game
whereas 6 and even moreso 7 almost felt more like Wii games, GameCubes swan song, end of an era, etc. 5 was peak gamecube and doesn't need the stupid mic to get full functionality out of it you just pick up and play. Plus I like the orange capsule machine guy in 5. good memories of playing with my childhood friend and mimicking his mouth movements going "myeh myeh myeh....MYEH" when he spits out a capsule.

I see what you mean. I played 7 more than any other Mario Party as a kid (to the point where I unlocked absolutely everything twice) so I have nostalgia for that one, even if it's probably not perfect.
>4 is too early and feels more like an N64 game
That's a fair statement considering most of 4's boards aren't that good, both visually and design-wise, and the pacing is slower than the N64 games, but i'm a fan of 4's minigames and lottery system.
>whereas 6 and even moreso 7 almost felt more like Wii games, GameCubes swan song, end of an era
6 and 7 are weird because they're both very similar, with it's capsule system, mic minigames and similar pacing, although I think 6's main gimmick (the day/night system) is better than 7's main gimmick (Bowser Time.)
But yeah, I feel like most people favorite Gamecube Mario Party is usually the one they have the most nostalgia for, and that's fine. I just figured i'd ask since I often hear people say 5 is the worst of the Gamecube Mario Party games.

No, you just needed one, and you'd switch between players. idk if 6 has it as well, but 7 gave you the option to just use a controller, just having the R button bring up a menu and pick the option you want. It turns out there's no cooldown in some mic minigames, so you can make it impossible for some people to win if you're the one with the "mic" on controller.

>> No.10755605

>>10755591
people insult the DC controller but it made a hell of a lot of sense when they added the mic. I guess adding a mic speaker to the wiimotes would've been bad from a design standpoint.

avalanche 1080 is a good one. it's a gamecube exclusive snowboard racing/tricks game. cool maps, good graphics, and a good sense of speed. it was the first game i bought with my gamecube.

When I quit videogames the first time, it was the inexpensive Gamecube with the Gameboy Player that provided me with cheap, affordable entertainment back then. Being a non-portable player on a shoestring budget, getting loose GBA games for under $5USD each from the most random places was pretty much the essential games for the system. Spend a few with the Metroid or Castlevania titles and be engrossed. For proper games specifically to the system, F-Zero GX is probably the last one I'd give up, even though games like Super Monkey Ball or the Resident Evil games give it a run for the money in terms of a great experience. For Mario sports, sure tennis and golf are pretty good, but give Strikers a chance that one has some good competitive flair.

I've been playing Mario Power Tennis and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm not enjoying the gimmick courts or the minigames, which just leaves the regular tennis. That part of the game is fun, but it's really one-note. The power shots are more of a weakness of the game than a strength for me; it's really frustrating to lose to one and it feels hard to use them strategically.
I haven't tried the Star Tournament yet, but I'm wondering about whether I should stick with the game at all.
Peach and Daisy are really hot though, so I don't feel like my money or time was wasted.

Power Tennis is fun, but the main gameplay loop definitely gets repetitive., especially if you wanna unlock the star versions of every character.
