Everything I've found on the internet is inconclusive and vague as fuck so asking here: If I want expansion audio on a front loading American NES coming from an everdrive n8 pro, will soldering a 47k resistor between pin 9 and 3 work? Have any of you tried this?

I wouldn't do it personally. You could try contacting Krikzz directly but if it's not supported it's probably just not supported.

Get a Famicom and original media instead of stealing games.

I have a Famicom Everdrive N8 and the expansion channel is supported. I don't see why the NES version would be any different

So exactly like your post. You shouldn't be playing with a screwdriver, let alone a soldering iron.

Doesn't the expansion audio come from a connector located on the bottom of the NES?

Yes, pin 3 and 9.
Resistor value can vary (lower resistance = higher volume, higher = lower volume), but 47k what I remember most people using.
Yes, this works with flash carts like the n8 pro. Only thing it might not work with is some FC->NES cart adapters.

Also forgot to mention. This is for a stock NES. If your NES has any video modes (RGB), this mod probably isn't compatible.

I haven't done this but I found some instructions for adding expansion audio to a front loader NES as it applies to NES RGB mod installation.

I have one of those NESRGB boards but haven't done the project yet as it looks like a major pain in the ass, also I quite pleased with the composite video output. That thing was expensive though so I plan to do the mod evetually.. I want it to have a SNES type output so it can use a snes scart cable.

I can't remember what pins they were but it used to be easy to find since the power pak used the same mod. I put a switch in that connects 2 wires to see if it really made a difference, the expansion audio can be a bit quite and hard to tell sometimes. You don't even really need to solder, its just to points on the expansion connection under the system. Newer firmware lets you change the volume now so the resistor doesn't have to be exact.
The common games to notice it are Gimmick and Castlevania but a few FDS games sound a bit different like excitebike.

You can try the soldering methods, but you can also get a 50 dollar EPSM board that supports expansion audio and adds additional channels for homebrew games/music. Keep in mind if you go this route you'll need to use a speicifc mapper pack located here: https://www.muramasaentertainment.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/EPSM_EDN8_Mappers_2023-06-19.zip

I'm pretty sure pacman CE uses the expansion audio as well

This. Why do a simple mod that just makes everything work the way it should when you can buy some retarded shit and do a bunch of other shit to make work
