Honestly is it even that big of a deal? People thought trenchcoats and guns were cool at the time, red is cool because it symbolizes blood, and everyone was a gun toting anti-hero. In my opinion, while they could be inspired by each other it could also be parallel thinking.

It's not and you're right, it was a trend at the time so that means that everyone will do it and people will get inspired by it and make something like it in an extent. I'm sure after Mario got popular, games inspired by Mario appeared (alongside with cheap, Chinese bootlegs but ignore those).

He is a monkey and can transform into a giant monkey. This game is based on Journey to the West, a classic Chinese novel. Dragon Ball is also based on the same novel, at least the very early part of the story when Bulma is collecting Dragon Balls.
