You don't have to hate on Final Fantasy to appreciate Lufia 2. I like both of them. I'd even consider Lufia 2 to be tied with Chrono Trigger as the best RPG on the SNES.

agreed. there are certain aspects that chrono trigger does better, but there are others that lufia does better. visually and narratively, chrono trigger is a lot better. dungeon exploring, lufia 2 takes the cake. chrono trigger has a true ng+, but lufia has retry and ancient cave. music is tied, because they both absolutely slap.

I'm still fucking flabbergasted Yasunori Shiono didn't do more OST work, his Lufia stuff can easily bat with the best of them, but he basically dissapears from the industry after TLR.

Fun fact; Dekars theme was originally composed for another scene but Shiono ended up loving his character so much he officially made it Dekars theme.

On that note, its also kind of funny how both he and Mitsuda share a first name and both did arguably the best JRPG soundtracks on the same console.

It is fun, and the entire game is extremely impressive. However, I did not enjoy the approach of the GBC game, which made all the dungeons Ancient Cave-style. Nice idea, but they didn't add enough mechanics to the Ancient Cave formula for it to stay interesting as the main attraction.
