Apparently it it got so bad that multiple office complexes stopped doing teh needful bc teh employees just played Moorhuhn instead.
Teh song which OP posted is from a (semi)-popular german comedian of that time period.
I guess it was mostly a german phenomenon.

I absolutely remember it. The theme for Moorhuhn 2 was composed by Jeroen Tel. I still listen to it from time to time, it's a classic.

Kek... I owned that version and I played quite a fair share out of b/c it run smoothly while you were surfing/downloading something.
Teh original version was sponsored by Johnny Walkers.
The also made an MK clone and 2 or moar PaC adventures. The adventures were actually kinda AFAIR. But don't quote me on that.
But it spawned a whole shovelware of shooting gallery games that's 4 sure.
Wespenjagd 1+2 is what I recall teh most.
They were available as freeware. One of them had the theme of Teh Naked Gun as endless loop.^^

Despite the adventures, teh serious german games mags disliked them heavily.

I loved it. Our elementary school had it installed on its computers. It was one of the few "modern" PC games that would actually run on ancient hardware.

I completely forgot about this game until now. Good memories.

mechanically it isn't that different from an fps aim trainer
it was originally a flash game so the fps were atrocious but most people didn't know anything else

I'd play this one with my friend on his PC. At one point we played for so long that the background and color palette kept changing to be more purple with each round! We thought it was getting "night time" or dark as it went on. But I think his monitor malfunctioned (or the cable got loose). But I still remember it. Fun times.

I had this on the PS1. Found it in a grocery store when I was a kid and my mom bought it because it was so cheap.
I didn't like it much and didn't go far, but it was interesting to find hidden stuff.

its a creation by german artist ingo mesche, who conceived it for frank ziemlinski. ziemlinski needed a character for an adgame that he made for a whiskey brand called johnny walker (i think this brand still exists today). so 'moorhuhn' was just meant to be a little advertisement game at first, but eventually evolved into a germany wide brand. as one anon already wrote, it rendered some workplaces completely unusable, cause all the employees played moorhuhn all day. this is probably a little but overexaggerated and part of the 'moorhuhn myth', but might actually be true for some institutions/people.

i think it was only successfull in europe, some poles know it, some swiss, austrians, dutch. but mostly it was a german thing.

the first game ('die originale moorhuhnjagd' = 'the original willow ptarmigan hunt') was released in 1999, two sequels followed that were not only adgames anymore. phenomedia, the company that released moorhuhn, redesigned the chicken in the 2003 title 'moorhuhn x' and gave it a more modern look with hands instead of wings. there were jump'n'runs, kart racing games, pinball games and other stuff released revolving around 'moorhuhn'. around 2017 the brand 'moorhuhn' was bought by ak tronics and is owned by it until today, phenomedia no longer exists anymore.

it still is quite known in germany by boomers, zoomers and millenials, but the newer generations (born around ~ 2005) doesnt really know the huhn anymore. it kinda fell into obscurity.

yeah the adventures were quite fun actually. the world of them felt so huge back in the day when i was a kid. today i realize they were actually relatively small, as every moorhuhn game has this "minigame"-ish feel to it. still worth a play, if it would actually run on modern PCs.

Do the devs who create these modern Moorhuhn games have permission to do so? They're all made by different people.

The modern releases on Steam like Moorhuhn Cart, Moorhuhn X, Tiger Chicken, Crazy Chicken Xtreme. They're all by different developers and publishers.

moorhuhn kart (first part released 2002) and moorhuhn x (released 2003) were originally developed by phenomedia and are just republished, because phenomedia went bankrupt in the late 2010s and doesnt exist anymore. tiger&chicken and moorhuhn xtreme are newer games and are developed by other studios (for the same reason)
