My favorites are probably fourth gen now, but I did enjoy a lot of Need for Speed III, Wave Race, Powerboat Racing, California Speed, and F-Zero X as a kid. Still need to play Wipeout and a ton of others

Yes, it kinda highlights the point. If one system could have so much quality, imagine all systems and arcades combined. 5th gen is unparalled in quantity and quality.

Are there any good open world racers from that era? I have always kinda liked racing games in short spurts, but something about the open nature of Burnout Paradise hits an incredible sweet spot with me and I got obsessed with it. Kinda curious to if see what older ones trying a similar take were good.

Top Gear Rally
Beetle Adventure Racing
Rush 2
Cruis'n World
F1 WGP

Worth checking out:
MRC
Rally Challenge 2000
World Driver Championship
Automobili Lamborghini

There's a few I want to try like Indy Racing 2000, Monster Truck Madness 64, Top Gear Overdrive, Stunt Racer 64 and Roadsters.

is was also when the majority of the heavy hitters came out. all 4 consoles have exclusives worth playing. 5th gen had a lot of good ones but it was mostly contained to the playstation and a few on the saturn and even less on nintendo. the gamecube is basically the only nintendo console with a solid racing game library.

Huh, never thought of the cube as a solid racer platform outside of F-Zero GX and a few multiplatform titles. What else is there? I think you give the N64 a bad rap, while way behind the PS1, it had quite a solid racing library.

Posting the Saturn collage because I can't find one for the N64.

theres not that many exclusives but its pretty good in terms of multiplat. off the top of my head, the main 5 NFS's of that gen are on GC (though HP2 is better on ps2), as well as auto modellista. unfortunately its only the US tuned version. theres probably more but im not sure. its not super impressive apart from but its better than the literal nothing except for wii wheel gimmick shovelware and just mario kart on basically anything that came after.
