The virtual console on the 3DS is coming out with this pretty soon. Anyone else wish they would release the SNES version instead of the NES version? Also how come there are no SNES games on the virtual console? Nintendo hates money?

Nope, NES version is much better.

I've never actually played the NES version cause I never had a NES but I'm not sure I could enjoy it the same. SNES was my first console and All-Stars was the first time playing most of the Mario's. I downloaded the NES version of this last week on my 3DS and had a pretty hard time adjusting at first but still had a great time. Was surprised the jumping was so much different.

Kind of wish they'd release this as a 3D Classics version. Might be neat, especially how well Kid Icarus and Kirby's Adventure turned out in 3D.

They could probably play up the "different platforms=different layers" thing (stooping down on white platforms let you go behind the foreground).

I still am annoyed that the Wii version of All-Stars didn't include the originals, too.

No, I love the original SMB3 on the NES a lot more than the SNES remake.

dat color palate homie for me it was the best looking game on the nes. I was 4 when that came out that is one of my earliest memories.

I want this but not in the 3D classics. I got a 3DS a few weeks ago and I can never get the 3D to look decent. Wherever I hold the DS I see a double image or it's just blurry.

Super Mario Bros 3 was the best Mario game of all-time. All these years later, it still is.

Not only do I agree that World is better than 3, I also think 3 is the weakest of the three Mario games on the NES, and how do you like that, dickface? How about presenting some arguments for why 3 is objectively better?

You haven't presented any arguments as to why it's objectively worse. Of course, you never will, because taste is subjective.

Now run along to >>>/v/. I hear they love "opinion as fact" over there.

People who support "virtual console" bullshit are mindless consumertards. Get the old carts, or emulate, don't be complicit in the "intellectual ownership" of past culture like this.

I purchased Oracle of Seasons on the VC because I wanted a portable version of the game that emulated well and wasn't expensive. 5 bucks was the cheapest way for me to achieve this.

When you have a job, 5 dollars here or there is not an issue.

Some guy posted his opinion that World is better than 3, and he was accused of having objectively bad taste. So I encouraged the accuser of presenting actual arguments for why 3 is better than World, which might lead to some interesting and fruitful discussion, instead of just going "durr, go back to /v/".

This is a quote that started this. If you wanted to ask, you should have asked instead of starting this "muh objective opinions" bullshit, especially considering you didn't offer anything in return.

I don't really care enough about World and 3 to argue about it, I just know I had more fun with World. I'll tell you why I prefer 1 over 3 though. SMB1 was built for speed. You can just take off and pretty much run like a motherfucker from beginning to end, and it's like the placement of all the enemies and obstacles facilitates. I think all the extra stuff added to SMB3 just dragged the game down. I just find the whole game kinda slow and dull. Speed running SMB1 is a real pleasure, and that's why I keep coming back to it. But I read in a review of New Super Luigi U: "the ridiculously short time limit in every level destroys the real draw of a Mario game: patient exploration." So people obviously have very different opinions about what a Mario game should be.

If you have a DS/3DS, you can get a flashcart for something hilarious like $3 with a small microSD, and emulate it on that. Or use an emulator on your smartphone (which you already have, because you have a job, right?).
