I am genuinely surprised that this rotate-able "modular" technology, let alone this circular d-pad/analog technology, is exclusively used for actual toddlers who will never again experience it ever in the real world or with any other device than their dated Fisher Price/Leap Frog toy, which in modern times just do not sell because most toddlers just get their parents' old smart phone.

WHY HASN'T EVEN NINTENDO FUCKING DONE ANYTHING WITH THIS BRILLIANT HARDWARE TECH, let alone chinkhelds?

Not only can you swap southpaw/proper controls on a swivelling ball that just swaps the d-pad and face button (you could have more on the mere fact the analog d-pad exists, having four face buttons should be easy peasy) but the actual analog d-pad itself is such in insane piece of technology. You have to physically experience it yourself in person to understand.

I just do not understand. Gaming hardware technology has been so fucking fucked for the past decade and a half doing most things wrong. Not sure if this is the right thread, but anyone with a steam deck notice their joystick stems wearing down? Mine is rubbing off black stuff onto the surrounding plastic case and feels rough. I'm not even rough with it and only play indie games. It's strange since I've never had this happen with any controller in over 20 years, not even the rp3+ of 1 year.

I always thought modular designs were a grossly under-utilized concept, but to be entirely honest you do not need anything in any device to be modular other than its battery(ies). I fantasized how something could be the perfect device for everybody if it allowed everybody to easily customize it to their preferences. But in practice, all this does is create loose, lost pieces and if any unique modular pieces are made they are exclusively only ever used with one or two pieces of software out of thousands.
What I am now focusing on, is designs like these fucking LeapFrog devices with these insane "switchable" controls and screens, you just flick a switch and it just swaps everything for you in a way that's literally drooling toddler proof, as seen >>10656449 and >>10657804

I like the idea of nano/micro handhelds, though the smallest one I personally own is the Miyoo Mini. Anything smaller is basic shit like Tamagotchi/Pocket Pikachu devices or 9999-in-1 brick game keychains.
Nothing about the GBA micro appeals to me. I just cannot see how playing games on it in any way would be enjoyable at any level.
I am a little salty that I never got the Mother 3 GBA micro bundle back in the day when I had the chance to but even then I would rather buy a new GBA SP with the even better lighting than the original models (can't remember the actual name but everyone I knew just called it the GBA SP 1.2) than ever waste time with the micro.

Be honest, if you have one or have held one; Is it actually okay to play on or is the screen too small the the device too cramped?

There is a very, very good reason why Tiger electronic handhelds besides the millions of licensed Game&Watch styled handhelds they made, all used 16x16 or 32x32 pixel displays. When your screen is less than two inches in size it is just plain fucking stupid to have anything at higher resolutions. Even the smart wristbands (not smart watches, but the bracelettes like the fitbit with a display) are just redundantly stupid resolution displays for the information they actually are able to register and show. 99% of fitbit smart bands have a screen resolution three-fold more than what's needed and the designers just have pixels occupy nine pixels adjacent to it to upscale lazily.

Keeping in mind that you can't even play GB/GBC titles on the GBAmicro unless you're using a flash cart and convert every GB/GBC rom to a .gba file manually through the fan made converter that isn't accurate with every title, anyone who has a GBAmicro is going to be pretty much exclusively playing GBA games on it.
You can get away with scaling GB/GBC titles down to half the size their original screens had due to their resolutions and simple colours, but GBA titles at this scale could only be a fucking nightmare. They used a based plastic and painted the GBA SP and og phat NDS models, only returning to dedicated plastic colours for the DSlite (with your hinge cracking eventually based on the colour plastics used), but at worst you might get the paint wearing down from your hand oils and years and years of constant use.

This issue with the way the 3DS models are all painted with a paint designed to deteriorate after a decade is just another shortcut Nintendo took when originally designing the 3DS. Of course, New 3DS and 2DS models do not have this issue since they use coloured plastic rather than painted plastic, but holy fucking shit does it really look like Nintendo was just taking their core customers for a ride for being early adapters of the 3DS and Wii U, so glad the Wii U bombed the way that it did.

Yo Anbernig, nobody was even suggesting Anbernic handhelds had this issue, but I guess you are required to make some sort of post quota and need to artificially shoehorn Anbernic handhelds into literally any and all discussions as part of your actual job.

>> No.10662143

>>10662141
Actually many Anbernic handhelds have this issue because they come with two separate USB-C ports, one for charging and one for direct PC connection. Confusing the two can and will kill your device if your try to charge it through the PC-dedicated-port USB-C. Doesn't make it any better that a lot of Anbernic, and "Game Consoie" handhelds put both their dual-SD card slots side by side but also their two fucking USB-C ports side by side.

A chink handheld like the R35S or R36S demonstrably do not, and you can fuck the entire device up by trying to charge it with a phone's USB-C charging cable in the wrong USB-C port.

The ATGames white and orange plug-and-play controller is unironically better all around, from its circular d-pad to its six face buttons and how they press. You guys are being retards, a device only pulls what it needs. The power supply doesn't "push" electricity, the device "pulls" it.

That's why you can only get shocked if you're grounded (baring extreme situations like a high voltage powerline)

Look at it this way, do you get shocked if you touch a usb c connector? No? Why not? Because nothing is drawing power. Fast chargers/laptop chargers aren't blindly sending out 100W at 4 amps. You'd get shocked just by touching the tip if they did.

Yeah, and nothing made my Miyoo, Ambernic, or powkiddy is so poorly designed as to have that flaw.

Only the cheapest, most bottom of the barrel famiclones and 9000 in 1 LCD games have that issue, usually because they took a design that used batteries and converted it to use a crappy all in one lithium battery/charger, so it expects the perfect voltage (3v, 2A, but the volts don't matter as much as amps)

Think about it, a AA battery sends out how many amps? TWO. How many amps did you say those cheap devices need???

PSP looks good enough on Vita, so my PSP-2000 is in a drawer somewhere.

I have an H and it runs fine. Most dreamcast and N64 games run perfectly fine with a little tinkering. Lots of opinions online from people that don't own one say it runs like shit. The only problem I've run into was in Sonic Adventure 1 for whatever reason vehicles like cars or eggman sound like a jet engine. I've run most of the popular n64 games and dreamcast games without much issue. I didn't really bother with PSP emulation because I'm not interested in its library.

Having said that >>10665594 is right in that that retroid 2s is a bit better for a bit more money. It's an android device so it takes more effort to set up but it runs everything real well.

I have both but lately have been using the XXH more because it is easier to pocket comfortably and I've been traveling a lot so I like to hook up the XX-H to hotel TVs and use a bluetooth controller when I can. I mostly play SNES, Genesis, gba, and psx games and it runs all these perfectly.

I hate being spoiled by the Vita, it's sleep mode is unreal, the DSi is a close second, followed by the 3DS.

But these chink-helds sleep modes need work badly, they burn 30% or more in 12 hours, and basically die in 2 days.

To any Changs reading this, here's what the people want:
- 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios that are an integer multiple of the OG hardware we want to emulate. 2x or 3x the SNES, or the PSP in the case of 16:9 (OLED is a meme and yellows over time, just use a middle of the road IPS screen)
- a sleep mode that only eats 5% of the battery a day, don't act like this is a software problem, the hardware needs to be built for a good sleepmode.
- hall effect analog sticks
- If you're going to cheap out on the silicon membrane d-pads and buttons, at least use clicky buttons like the original ds, ideally though I'd prefer something like the snes controller with the little ball in the middle of the bottom of the d-pad(pic related)

Do all that and you have a device that will compete with 1st party consoles. Otherwise I'd just rather use my PS Vita and DSi XL into perpetuity because at least their sleep modes don't suck donkey nuts.

I started last February with the RG35XX after /v/ was spammed with the RG280V back in 2021 nonstop and it got me interested, but no device really seemed worth it to me until the RG35XX. I only learned of the Miyoo Mini after getting the RG35XX and would have loved an original one, but it was hyped by Tiktok trends harder than the Nintendo Amiibo ever were and the only one really available to me since was the Miyoo Mini V4.
Until the R35S and R36S released, I stuck with my RG35XX but looked through the entire history of chinkhelds and sought out ones I wanted to get, like the RetroMini and the Bittboy. I just fucking love the GameBoy. The only other 2023 ones I got were the SF-2000, which is such a fucking dream with everything about its physical design from its weight to its shape, and modern firmware fixes the issues with SNES and GBA titles not loading into the memory properly, requiring players to load a game, exit, and re-load it again for it to run properly but not anymore.

The RG35XX is sturdy as fuck, the only thing I have ever been worried about was its screen but I had my cat knock it off a shelf once. It landed directly on its top left corner full weight and impact. I was certain it was broken but... the only damage was a white stress mark on the plastic where it made impact with the hard floor. The screen didn't budge a micrometer, no scratches, turns on just as fine as it did when it was brand new.

Meanwhile, the screen on my R36S is starting to get a little squeaky in its bottom left corner, likely because playing DreamCast on it heats it up so much it's dissolving/melting the adhesive for the screen.

I got a Miyoo Mini V4 and >>10664258

The only reason I own one is because I bought it when it was new, to replace the micro I also bought new for the aforementioned reason. Pocketability was a high priority, and the only real reason either was even considered.

As far as PSP games, any other model (or a Vita) is preferable. The Go isn't particularly fun to use for anything utilizing the analog stick. But in 2024, most any chinkheld is going to outdo a PSP in utility, and some in portability.
Just don't bother with a Go. There's no reason unless your goal is to post photos of it and pretend you use it.

RP2S is solid if you need a quality d-pad, but 3:4 is no good for GBA. RP3+ and 4/Pro are overkill on the other hand.

>>10669787
Overpriced. Linux on RK3566 is terrible, so you're better off getting the Android version which is more expensive to fix some of the shortcomings, but even then still you have a d-pad with nasty fake diagonals and still can't get satisfying N64 and DC performance anyway. The positives are the plastic is really nice on my transparent purple and the speaker doesn't get blocked by your grip. Also, the 35XX Plus gets about the same performance now. Should be priced $70 at most IMO.

I used mine for rpgs in university classes. I never had an issue with it and im the kinda punk who rather play all handheld games on a tv if i can.

I am also salty about skipping the Mother 3 model. Had the Famicom version and my sickness was not high enough at that point to justify owning two of the same system. I want it because im a Mother fag, but honestly, its really ugly. I still dont know what the design is supposed to be. A rusted piece of technology? The Nowhere Islands? My retard brain wants it for the Mother 3 branding and the fact its the only special edition hardware for the series.

>galaxy paint job inside
That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The 3x grid shader requires 3x integer scaling. it makes the image look just like a real backlit GBA sp if that's what you're into. It's not a shader to hide imperfections, it adds imperfections, in grid3x it's adding space between pixels to look like the GBA screens used to look
