Those MotorStorm racing games on PS3. That high speed enertia mixed with lush tropical environments is pure chill mode but just enough road-concentration as well. Perfect game to listen hour-long podcasts to.

If I just have a few seconds/minutes to kill, Tetris, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, SMB3, etc.

If I have a little more time, usually Sonic 1 on my other handheld. If I have a good amount of time I'll turn on RetroArch on my TV and play Sonic CD or something.

The first Ninja Gaiden on NES. Sure it's a tough game but once you got it down you can just breeze through it. It's like an old buddy to me at this point.

Can't wait to get my own shitty Famiclone, but I guess there will be only Chinky copies of NES games, right?
Still, thanks to my short attention-span, it will be useful to be busy that few seconds of idleness that I might otherwise spend thinking

for me it's rootbeer tapper. really like it as a simple game-game where you aren't killing things.

It's a high speed game which is a little tough, but it's very short, and it's very fair with its difficulty. Every single attack is heavily telegraphed and can be dodged or countered (usually easily), and if you don't care about scoring or don't wanna 1cc, you can just continue after running out of lives, and you'll get through.

To me, and apparently to anon also, it's a fun and energetic shooting game which makes you feel like a badass because it's just tough enough, even on easy, but it's so little of a time investment and it's easygoing enough, that you don't feel any kind of stress or weight from it. I haven't tried the remaster, but I'm damn glad that the game is more available and visible, and that they actually threw in a lot of added content to make it more worth it.

Sonic Megamix, it's easy and has cool music.

Mega Man X 1 or 2
Doom
Recently I've been grinding in JRPGs, I end up way over leveling and restarting because the game gets too easy, I just like grinding sometimes
Symphony of the Night
Tetris
SMB 1(not 3 because even the easiest auto scrollers aren't relaxing)
Sim City or Civ(though my favorites aren't retro and ones not even the same series)

It's good to see a fellow handheld and Sonic fan around, incredibly BASED and SOVL. I'd say that my personal picks for relaxing Sonic titles are its 8-Bit ones, mainly Sonic (SGG) and Sonic 2 (SMS).

Also Sonic & Tails (SGG/SMS) since it's so simple to finish, just the Chaos Emeralds that are tough.
