All things considered, the BRASS BALLS on Konami to make a kart racer and have these characters on the roster is amazing on its own. The fact that they then localized that shit knowing not even major gaming publications knew what the fuck a Twinbee or Power Pro was, speaks volumes about how little fucks they gave back then. People always say you can't have just anyone in these sorts of games but clearly someone, somewhere thought Moai and Psycho Mantis duking it out in go-karts was a good idea.

Game's pretty fun too, better than Super Circuit.

Reminder that the "cookie monster" design isn't really Dracula, canonically. It's a different entity called Curse of Man, that appears right after Simon defeats Dracula and splits his body in 8 parts. Because of this Curse of Man monster, Simon gets cursed, and has to look for the 8 Dracula body parts in order to unlift his curse (as seen on Castlevania II: Simon's Quest).
This was explained by an ex-Konami employee who worked with Akamatsu (CV's creator).
As it was, the only other team that actually worked together with Akamatsu's team was the SCV IV team, which is why Dracula doesn't turn into the cookie monster at the end of it (I consider IV to be an AU retelling of CV1, where Simon actually defeats Dracula for good, without getting cursed), instead there's Gaibon as a sort of reference to Curse of Man.
All the other Castlevania teams weren't in conract with Akamatsu so they got it wrong, and thought Curse of Man to be Dracula's "real form" or whatever, as seen in Rondo, X68k or SOTN.

I mean, EVEN if it is true that Dracula's second form is the curse of man, that doesn't mean he's not Dracula at the same time. Both things can co-exist. In Castlevania lore Dracula isn't the Dracula we know from Bram Stocker and western folklore, he's the embodiment of all evil, hence why he has all those monsters and even Death itself under him. His second form is the representation of that, you may call it the Curse of Man. It's still Dracula.

I remember the thread this whole "Original Canon" stuff started in a couple years ago. It was literally just Classicvania trying to discredit Iga and SotN's influence by trying to give the original game's director the same auteur treatment that he gets. Like, they had literally gotten to the point to where they were claiming that 2 and 3 should count as spin-offs because of this whole "Curse of Man" thing.
