Any fond memories of this thing? The only kid I knew who had one was from a rich family, & had every console at launch, even the overpriced and under supported CD addons. I wouldn't have known TG16 even existed if not for those sleepovers. It was really aesthetically cool and mysterious machine (HuCards seemed like future tech, to say nothing of CDs) and it was my first time hearing voice acting in a game (Cosmic Fantasy 2).

I did start thinking it was kind of lame and pointless after I rented NES Bonk from Blockbuster, since it barely looked any different and was supposed to be a game possible only on a 16 bit machine. For a few years there however it captivated my imagination.

nope cuz im a zoomer
its a fantastic console though. wish it was pushed to its potential a bit more like the snes/genesis asides from 20 ish games but its got a lot of classics that still hold up

very impressive run in japan too, a solid 8+ years before kicking the bucket

It really feels like the 4th generation's Saturn in a lot of ways, it's a gem and it's just a shame how it took the PC-Engine's sleek design and ruined it in the US release, the TurboGrafX is just overdone...

>> No.10603357

>>10598721
I never came into contact with it as PC Engine was a grey market release in Europe and they didn't push through with an official European release after the botched US release

probably the best comparison. no mass appeal killer app, but has a lot of great titles in more niche genres.

I grew up in the 90's but I never knew about it until recently. TurboGrafx-CD has become my second favorite system after SEGA CD, it's a fantastic little machine

In fact the Saturn is often credited for a lot of things that both the SEGA CD and TurboGrafx-CD did years before it, like having loads of great shmups

Got the Duo with Ys book 1 and 2, Gate of Thunder and Dragonslayer back in 92. Ys and Gate were fantastic and I was blown away by the sound for both games. Dragonslayer was more conventional, but having voiced cutscenes back then was cool.

Bonk was very appealing

My friend had one and we used to play it all the time. I ended up buying it off him when he got sick of it. I always loved the look and feel of the system and controllers.

My brother got one for cheap after it failed in the US and I spent a ton of time playing Bonk, Chew-Man-Fu, Keith Courage, and Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu.

I never saw it, but he had a joke with his friends about the Sonic Spike shrine, which was just this giant pile of unsold Sonic Spikes at whatever failing electronics store he got the TG-16 from. We did have a copy of Sonic Spike, but I never played it because I didn't like sports games all that much. Now it's worth like 30 bucks, which is absurd for what it is.

Good console, I have a lot of fond memories of it.

I have many fond memories of laughing at EOP poorfags who had to wait 2 years for a system with no games. Not nearly as fond as the memories of nintoddlers crying about CD games, literally to this day.

The vast majority of its best games are exclusive to the CD format. You say "undersupported" but I beg to differ. God I wish I could afford a Turbo Everdrive Pro

A friend of mine had the TGFX-16 in the early 90s. It was fun to play JJ & Jeff. And Splatterhouse. I’m almost sure that he had Devil’s Crush too. Amazing system when you’re coming from the NES and bask in the glory of TGFX-16.

Why did Sunsoft cancel the Batman title that looked like another quality action platformer similar to their NES and Genesis titles for the PacMan like title they actually gave us? What were they thinking? I'm still pissed of about it.
