Also ZPD, despite being an adopted sister company to GKD, ended up being the chinkiest of the handheld companies. They're doing this "improved Xbox 360" d-pad design with ALL of their devices, not just the A1 Unicorn. Just avoid the fuckers and go with Powkiddy if you really feel the need to buy something cheap. At least Powkiddy actually has d-pads.

Sonic Mania works great. Let me know if you need the compiled Plus executable.

No, unfortunately it can't be scaled to 1:1 like the retail game.

>>10597430
The display on the RGB30 is pretty stunning, probably the best on chinkhelds bar OLED. 720p is great and helps shaders despite the poor OpenGL support on Rockchips getting in the way sometimes like with the DMG/GBP/C shaders. The aspect ratio just lets you play whatever: TATE games, GB and NGP will be the first things in your mind but it also works well with DS, integer (over)scale NES and SNES, odd games like Castlevania x68k. Some people will even push 4:3 games to 8:7, which given your tolerance for Raidou and scaling shaders can actually look pretty decent. Absolutely love the thing, just wish it wasn't so cheap and so weak, it's a brilliant format that deserves better.

I have a small hope that the RG556 uses the same screen as the 552. The resolution and screen ratio is a good compromise as long as you intend to play only /vr/ games.
This time, battery issues would be avoided and the device would be powerful enough to handle easily shaders on any console.

To the anon who asked how I got this look last thread:

It's a combo of the artifact colors shader (in the ntsc folder) enabling the blargg_ntsc_snes_composite video filter in the main video settings, and a custom scanline overlay I made specifically for 480p screens so that you don't get any weird scaling patterns

It's based on Fedora Silverblue so it gets the latest kernels and drivers too. It also has a bunch of other extras included by default like decky loader and has an installation wizard for other common things people install on their decks. The video only solidified to me that the reason Youtube chinkheld reviewers love the Odin 2 so much is that it has enough power that they can ignore having to enable proper settings in emulators. Because looking at this video, it's obvious this guy is too retarded to actually get things running properly. Also showing Dirge of Cerberus as an example of the 4Pro not being PS2 capable when that game specifically runs like ass on everything. Fucking joke.

Kind of a weird choice. It's not ready as a general purpose OS ATM. It's specifically optimized for the two Deck models. I expect lots of breakages in the future if they actually do that.
>Any idea if its any decent or not, didnt the Anbernic Win600 use it?
As the name implies it shipped with WIndows. You could install SteamOS on it but it doesn't work well. Bazzite actually officially supports the ROG Ally (but not the Win600). It still works better than HoloISO on it though.

steamdeck is just getting old at this point. over 2 years is ancient in terms of handhelds. the oled screen is nice but it's still 800p because the deck simply can't run games at 1080p. it's not powerful enough. it's not portable if the battery only lasts an hour or two. all valve can do is focus viral stealth marketing at specific target groups likely to be potential purchasers. "enjoy your chinese product" when the deck is literally made in china. "it can run ps3!" when the spreadsheets showing what ps3 games it runs are short and full of unplayable entries. "good luck if you need your product serviced" as if other companies don't try to help you at all if you have issues. "just buy the deck" and "i don't get it" is repeated often as a low intelligence logic-spam towards low impulse retards who can latch onto short, easy to understand statements. god forbid if you're here shilling the deck on your own accord without being paid, as if you aren't sucking the cock of a monopoly that basically ruined gaming and is the reason people come play /vr/ in the first place. inb4 a bunch of replies from owners of beloved steam decks

Sony still has "analog face buttons" even on the PS5 but I have to be honest, I haven't noticed any games since the PS2 that actually use them. Everyone has their hobby. There is a distinct difference between the three people who
a) Knee-jerk purchase whatever they think will be popular just to "get theirs", a fomo response since 2016's Amiibo craze. See; People who brag about getting a Miyoo Mini and AT BEST play Pokemon Firered, Crystal, or Platinum on it (not even for an entire playthru) before getting bored and needing to buy the next popular thing. These guys did a midnight release of Tony Hawk's Underground.
b) Need to own everything. No matter how redundant it is, they buy every different model of every different device. This is not "collecting". This is straight up hoarding. They own every copy of every Tony Hawk game on every platform.
c) Are hobbyists and are genuinely fascinated with the products and how they're evolving/growing. They own like, THPS1 for the PS1, maybe THPS3 for the GameCube, THUG for the PS2, and Skate 2. Not buying EVERY chinkheld but also not just buying what's popular to not feel left out. But they do have some redundant plastic among their purchases.

He doesn't even own a Deck himself. He was told it annoys /hhg/ and being annoying is the only way modern children know how to get someone's attention. Just stop responding to him and report him, him specifically. It's fine if somebody's genuinely curious about why everyone doesn't buy what has been marketed as "the best", nothing wrong with being ignorant and wanting to be informed. But when you specifically see this literal child posting the same question in the same format for the third or forth time in a thread, stop responding to him and report him being underage. 4channel is not his fucking babysitter but /hhg/ recently sure has been his for free.

It's definitely not 100% PS2 perfect, the RP4 Pro's chipset is basically on par with Ayaneo's Pocket Air where some games just will dip in terms of framerate no matter what resolution you use like GT3/GT4. But to say it isn't PS2 capable is a massive reach, I played SH2, SH3, Viewtiful Joe, and Yakuza 1 just fine on it. Some graphical glitches with Yakuza 1 where half the screen is tinted a different color, but that's more of an emulator glitch than a spec issue.
And this is with OpenGL at 2.5x native res.

Like ie;
I would happily argue the SF-2000 runs GBA and SNES. I would happily say the R35S/R36S runs DreamCast and N64. Not flawlessly, but games work well. Worst of it being is if you didn't update your SF-2000's firmware/have the original firmware that the original units shipped with, you need to load, exit, and re-enter GBA and SNES games due to a memory issue. But they still run without tweaking.
But this discussion reminds me of back when PSP emulation first started becoming affordable on these devices and reviewers would claim the devices could play PSP just because the fucking title screen of a game would eventually load, it was so dishonest.

It's a "shitty game of semantics" to say "run PS2" = "run PS2 without tweaking". They are not even remotely the same. People say Odin 2 and Deck runs PS2 without tweaking as a selling point because it's fucking remarkable that they don't need tweaking, while tweaking is implied for everything else. D1200 is a very well known quantity from the GPD XD+ and Aya Neo Pocket Air, and even though they ran maybe 98% of PS2 at fullspeed, they still needed tweaking. A D1100 is a little under that.

Didn't we already have this exact same discussion literally last thread?
There are levels and what different people mean and expect.
Can't run at all - As it says, can't run it at all.
Can load with major issues - This is where the trouble begins. The mere fact a title screen eventually loads with heavy tweaking will have some hobbyists arguing that the device can run the emulator. But of course what people want are the fucking games to run properly.
Many games "run", most need individual tweaking - This is where the proper divide begins, where if you have the knowledge and time you can get most games running at an acceptable level, but we need to be honest that the majority of people interested in video games, let alone people in general, aren't going to be bothered with that.
Most games are flawless, some need some tweaking - This is what is generally accepted as the area when people can safely say a device can run an emulator/system. Most are willing to accept some higher performance/unique titles will need individual tweaking, most famous examples being unique chip SNES games like Yoshi's Island and Star Fox (but in 2024 we're beyond whether a device can play SNES fully or not, Saturn and PS2 are the modern targets)
Perfect Emulation - The device just plays the entire library as good as emulation allows. No arguing what this means as it's so self-explanatory.

The major issue is out of the five degrees of emulation, thousands of individuals argue between level 2, 3, and 4 as "emulating a system". That's where the arguments come in, and most of us have moved beyond that upon acknowledging the difference. It's best to just straight up ask people to show themselves playing the game they claim performs well to get a proper understanding on what you expect and what the device actually delivers.
ie; The R35S and R36S run DreamCast and N64. Many have a weird lighting issue though that casts hard black shadows on many models. And this is the stock Ark 2.0 OS.

Portable to me means I can use it at work (night shift) without turning heads. I see people bring switches, but a giant fucking handheld pc would turn heads. Odin 2 is basically the same form factor as a switch. Also I have a laptop, I usually watch something on that while playing games. So a backpack with a laptop and odin is reasonable. A backpack with a laptop and steam deck is overboard. Steam deck was never an option for me. Odin 2 size is already pushing it. Money is not the point, other factors are.

Didn't mind it so much until I got pocketpilled after realizing my steamdeck was useless as a portable console considering I had to pack it like carry on luggage if I ever wanted to take it anywhere. I get that people seem obsessed with specs. I think the dumber thing though, is to buy the cheapest thing, be unhappy with it, then buy the slightly more expensive thing, still unhappy, buy the slightly more expensive thing. True but I feel like people act as if the only two options are the $500 car with the shattered windshiwld and missing front door, or the $800,000 luxury sportscar that you can only drive certain places out of fear of it getting scratched

Normalize "solid" devices with reasonable price points, power and usability instead of blowing your loads because the next $800 handheld can play 3% more nintendo switch games than before on a battery life of two hours

Problem is it's very easy to overpay for something you don't need and I think a lot of people are aware of that on some level thanks to exposure of common marketing tricks like McDonald's cookies (1 for $1.50 vs 13 for $5.50). I think you have to experiment yourself and it's different for each person based on what their needs are. I first bought a rp3+ and that was fine for me, but recognized that while at home I'd like to game on something more powerful and not just limited to emulators so I got a Rog Ally. I don't bring my Ally with me while traveling though, because I don't have time to play shit like Elden Ring and Yakuza on it. Instead I just stick to smaller bite sized android games or SNES - PS1 stuff, so my rp3+ still has a use case.

There is no way I'm using a handheld pc at home when I have a 3070 and a nice desk chair. I never game in bed, my back starts to hurt and it just isn't as comfy sitting up in bed as being in a nice steelcase chair. The retroid pocket feels like a compromise. It's too big to fit in pocket comfortably, but too small for modern games and longer gaming sessions. If you want only one device though and are OK with the compromise, it might be the one.

4pro is pretty drastic, just not enough yet to warrant it if you have a similar device to the rp3+
it definitely does PS2/GC/3DS far better, but the hardware seems to have some kinks you might want them to iron out first before you commit
(fan noise, green display, chipset shit, optimization, etc)
rp4 base is a jump but imo not worth the price difference if you already have an rp3+ or if that sale youre seeing on the rp3+ is big enough imo

I've seen them going for around 100 shipped, you could probably find similar on ebay but I haven't looked there. Definitely not worth 125+15 shipping though at this point. If you're buying from scratch I'd honestly rec the 4 or 4 pro depending on the level of power you need. Since it sounds like you want to do gamecube definitely go 4 or 4 pro

the Micro is neat, but the lack of native Game Boy/Color compatibility has always been the big thing keeping me from potentially hunting one down, well that and the fact that every time I look them up on eBay all the ones up for sale have had the utter shit scuffed out of them

I dont really understand this. How does it matter if you need it at full speed for ps2? I'd say the noise has more to do with the geometry and size of the fan

if you have a flashcart you can emulate gb/gbc games with goomba color, but it's outdone by any chinkheld on that front

I really wasn't looking forward to pulling out a device, that's about the size of a small child, out of my backpack - Russ aka "game corporal russ" aka "russelmania" aka "russinator" discussing the steam deck

Is there a device thats just dpad + 2 face buttons, ideally with a 1:1 screen? It'd be nice to have something just for those early handhelds like gameboy, gamegear, ngp

Update from the dude who bought the £17 "RG35XX" from the TikTok store "Anbernic Direct".

It arrived, is legit, and works great. Swapped the SD out for a reputable 256gb, flashed GarlicOS and stuck the full Tiny Best Set collection on.

Want a Retroid Pocket 2S now.
