I'm pretty sure they thought calling it Panel De Pon like in Japan would trigger English only kids so they renamed it to something familiar. Most of the world just assumes Americans are uneducated and triggered by it.

Nintendo legally can't re-release Tetris Attack because it was an unlicensed use of the Tetris brand.

It's why Panel de Pon is on Switch NSO SNES app. Shame Nintendo won't make the effort to just remove the Tetris branding from the Yoshi version and call it "Yoshi Puzzle League" or something.

Nintendo is too lazy to translate Panel de Pon rom to English, so everyone has to play the game in Japanese. They could have just easily get someone to romhack the title screen in Tetris Attack to say "Yoshi's Puzzle League", but no, too much work.

I think it was to capitalize on the popularity and reach of Tetris that extended beyond the usual video game crowd. Since the word "Tetris" is a nonsensical word, maybe they could have marketed it as the name of the genre like "Rougelike" or "Rouguelite". It was probably wise to name the game that way which is why the marketers are paid the big bucks while I wallow in minimum wage for such decisions.

Not so much triggered as apathy. Nobody would have given this game a second glance on the shelf with some nonsense name and gay fairies in the game. It made sense to give it a proper English title and add Nintendo characters.
