Because Konami doesn't make good games anymore. They know class of 2002 grew up playing metal gear on PlayStation or whatever and all the good s***'s gone

We can't get our message to them telling them what we want as consumers so they can't make a product that's geared towards people who want that product. The Parodius games were lightning in a bottle when it comes to how amusing they were and how actually fantastic they were as shmups. They tried to bring it back from the dead with Otomedius and it was fucking garbage. Looked like shit, wasn't amusing, everything was just an anime girl now with a bland art style.

Parodius is one of my favorite games on the SNES, havent actually played any of the other games. Which ones would you recommend to start with? Also if you have some lesser known titles id gladly check them out too.

The pixel chunkiness, the cheekiness, the riot all over the screen, at all times... they are just ENDEARING, and FUN, and HARD - actual challenges, and GREAT GAMES to play for Online Score (Retroachievements.org + Duckstation with Achievements enabled).

Not at all the same thing, dude. Parodius is a horizontal pre-danmaku dadshmup and has a much more random and ecchi style. Touhou, while a bit silly at times, sticks to its Shinto aesthetic pretty consistently.

My tween cousins and nephew came to the office to visit me before Christmas last month, and I launched Death Smiles for us to play reliefs. It is insanely fun and intense. And SPOOOOOOOOOOOOKY.

Yokai/Supernatural protagonist SHMUPs are my favorite.
