The lighting in this game is 100% art and gorgeous.

Also the monsters have the perfect look

I finished the remaster when it came out. What's special about the lightning?

>> No.10586354

the light in this game is i cant see shit therefore unplayable trash. i dont care how artistic your game is, if you cant adjust brightness depending on room light, then i cant see your fucking game as your art is invalidated

The game actually looks perfect at default brightness level on a calibrated monitor.

Wait, you're not playing on a CRT, the way the developer intended?

I can't believe you'd just admit something like that.

It looks like magic.

Have a look.
There is something special about this look. Like there is a gradient of light on the walls or something. It is hard to explain.

Look at my webms.
This is from the PC remaster of the game with minimal increases in brightens.

Tell me you can not see shit. And I tell you to go and find a eye doctor as soon as possible.

I do not know it looks like magic.
I'm unsure if they colored the textures this way or if this is some advanced lighting efect.

It looks like magic especially if there are these areas of colored light.

And it is like pulsing.
I love it and I did never see another game look like this.

The I only played DOOM 64 on emulator and needed to crank up the contrast full up.

For whatever reason the game as it shipped was too dark, especially the default configuration. Adjusting the brightness helps but CRTs of the 90s were not always played in pitch black rooms for ideal viewing. It's the games biggest flaw, and hell stages being so dark only added to how difficult it is to see. The game playing with dark or carefully lit rooms for effect didn't help, and the softness of the n64 made making out some elements genuinely annoying. I like doom64s look but it's like in the new art style they didn't adjust well from the vibrant original doom art.

This isn't even accounting for your TV setting which could easily make it darker.

Doom 64 makes frequent use out of color tinting on its flats and textures to get more mileage and variety out of them.

Anytime you're completey bathed and enveloped in a coloured light it's always kino. I love the areas with green ooze floors the rooms are always fully lit neon green. Nice orange, yellows, purples and dark blues. Yep, it's kino lighting for sure.

Not to my experience.
I played it on a emulator and it looks identical to how it looks on the PC remaster.

HOWEVER I remember basically dedicating 1 emulators for doom 64 where I cranked up the brightness in the emulator to the MAX. So keep this in mind. I assumed it is some N64 emulator thing and did play the game this way.
