I beat this game on release and have fond memories of the snow temple and thought the magnet iron boot shit was cool but oh my fucking god it’s absolute garbage.

>tutorial feels like it never stops and goes on forever
>Midna is an annoying character and the imp design is shit you retarded coomers
>combat feels sluggish and movement feels floaty, Link feels like he has no weight to him and is a complete step down to OoT and MM
>zant has a cool design, until the mask comes off
>fishing rewards are over designed, hell the entire mini game is
>seasons changing in there is cool though
>so much time just walking between objectives instead of actually doing shit, MM and OoT were perfectly paced in comparison

On this replay I just got to when you can freely go between wolf and human form. The problem is after playing Okami this game feels like DOGSHIT. What am I missing?

I agree with you. I have good memories of TP at launch but I will never ever play it again. You didn't even get into how muddy everything looks. Fuckin n64 games have more clarity.
TP takes absolutely fucking forever to get going and then the fun dungeons keep getting interrupted with total bullshit.
>>10586352
I agree. Okami is a chore in a similar way. Anyone who praises Okami but shits on this era of zelda is just a fucking clown to be honest. They are all of the same ilk

Are the N64 ones better? Yes, but TP is still a great game as far as 6th gen is concerned, same with WW.
That generation was the beginning of the end for vidya, but Zelda kept being good

Better than all the shitskin simulators that were the best selling of that gen for sure.
Now if you tell me stuff like DMC ir Ninja Gaiden then yeah, but those weren't best sellers

What is a shitskin simulator? Who even talks like that? Anyway even within it's genre, Wind Waker was pretty good but Okami blew it out of the water.

I like both, Okami and WW.
Shitskin simulators are the most famous games of 6th gen onwards: GTA, and all these games with shitty gameplay that let you live the american dream: being a gang member

If GTA being popular didn't affect me, why should I care? Zelda is popular and I don't care about it either, but what dies that matter? It's not like 6th gen wasn't packed with other amazing games to play. I also disagree with the general notion that games are crap now compared to then. In my experience ever since I had an Atari and every year since it's always been mostly mediocre games with the odd amazing ones.

It means he blames crime on dark skinned people and so even a game where you're a waspy criminal you're still a "shitskin". Typical immature pouting.

TP's problem is filler dungeons

1 Forest Temple is a solid starter, I like the monkeys
2 Goron Mines are too linear and the gimmick is lame, should have been better used
3 Lakebed Temple is pretty good
4 Arbiter's Grounds is the one that sticks out to me as by far the worst
5 Snowpeak is ok, the story is what sells it, not the puzzle

I haven't played the rest of the game yet but 2.5/5 is a pretty weak
Really a Master Quest+ type revision hack with redesigns for the weaker dungeons would be warranted and save this game.

Otherwise this is the definitive end to the OoT trilogy, definitive Zelda of the GC/Wii generation, also the definitive GC game besides Melee.

If you have criticisms of those dungeons. You will not be happy with the shadow realm and hyrule castle... I know, I wasn't. I like the game but the climax is, anti climatic. But so is OOT.

OoT:
1 Deku Tree is a good starter
2 Dodongo is an ok filler
3 Jabu-Jabu is pushing the limits of easy-design but is good
4 Forest Temple is a classic
5 Fire Temple is ok
6 WATER TEMPLE is the best
7 Shadow is meh
8 Spirit is ok at best
9 Ganon's is meh
Also
1 Woodfall is good
2 Snowhead is good
3 Great Bay is good
4 Havent played Stone Tower, need to beat MM

Still, in these two games, you get quite a lot of good dungeons. Only by Skyward Sword did the GC/Wii generation come close to being comparably good to the N64 Zeldas. And I haven't even played Master Quest.

>tutorial feels like it never stops and goes on forever
I was born in the mid-90s and decided to try Twilight Princess out in the late 2000s despite never caring about Zelda, and I got bored by the tutorial and quit the game like 5 minutes in, if that.

Never played another one since.

>> No.10587892

So you didn't got to any gameplay, 5 minutes in Rusl is asking Link to go in his stead to Hyrule in cutscene.

I dont mind shitting on TP, because it was a huge let down for me. Im the type of person who grew up with the 5th gen Zeldas and shat on WW for its babys graphics. But, TP was such a disappointment. Everything is brown, tutorial too long, playing as wolf is kind of fun, but the mandatory wolf sections are a chore, finally they went full bullshit with cutscenes, there are cutscenes for every little event in the game and they interrupt the flow too much.

>> No.10588727

My problems with it are:
>wolf link sucks. a step down from MM transformations
>everything between file creation and zora's domain is a slow, linear chore
>hyrule field is unsatisfying to traverse
>sidequests and minor NPC interactions are a step down from WW

That said:
>starting with Lakebed Temple, the dungeons pick up BIG TIME and rank among my favorites
>endgame is much more solid than WW

>> No.10589160

The dungeon where you make soup for the yeti's wife was amazing. Otherwise the game is pretty dull. Most of the Zelda games suffer from being too easy, but TP is by far the worst offender, and it kills the darker tone they're going for. The wolf form doesn't get any upgrades and is generally very uninteresting to play as (with less combat options and no exploration techniques other than arkhamvision and contextual long jumps). Most of the dungeons are deceptivley linear, and none of the sidequests feel rewarding or worth doing at all (again, because the game is so non-threatening). I've played pretty much every Zelda game at release, but this is the first one that really let me down, and I can't say I fully enjoyed any of the ones that came after until Link Between Worlds.

I don't get the criticism of the late game dungeons in TP. TP's problems were always with the early game pacing for me. Even the less inspired late game dungeons are short enough that they never feel like a drag.

To be fair, so was literally everything else during that time. Prince of Persia, GTA IV, Gears of War, etc.

I feel the opposite, to me it feels like Link has too much weight compared to OoT and Wolf Link feels exactly the same. Only the slash animation is replaced for a bite animation but functionally it's exactly the same.

Wind Waker wasn't brown. Okami wasn't brown. Tales of Symphonia wasn't brown. Psychonaughts wasn't brown. FarCry wasn't brown.

The first two examples, this was the era, the dawn of seventh gen where Japanese software sales were going downwards real hard, because "they were for pussies and wapanese" (later, weeaboos). At it's worst, liking anything remotely Japanese would kill threads on /v/ with "WEEABOO" screeching, it was awful.

Psychonauts is more yellow-green, going off memory but you're right about Far Cry. But alas, a good chunk of the seventh gen was sepia because "muh serious art vidya".

The first two examples, Wind Waker and Okami both came out before Twilight Princess. The whole "that era was all brown" line has never held much water. You cherry picked a game that takes place in a desert, a game that takes place is a grimy American city and a game about fighting subterranean reptile aliens.

>> No.10592608

>>10592571
>takes place in a desert
Warrior Within does not take place in a desert, it does in an island with lots of vegetation and yet it's all brown and gets outright sepia when the Dahaka chases you.
Sands of Time, on the other hand was much more colorful (and stylized in a non-realistic way).

Let's compare two desert games then: MGS4:GotP Afghanistan vs MGSV:TPP Afghanistan. While both are desert settings, the latter has the sparce vegetation much more colorful and pop up more, than the former which borders on grayscale.
