What is the best way to play Sonic Adventure in 2024 on PC? I know the PC port is shit SOOOOO
1) just emulate the dream cast version
2) emulate the game cube version
3) try to get the PC version to work and install countless of mods to fix it?

I just want to play the game as easy as possible without much work.

In order of least to most effort
> Gamecube > Dreamcast > PC
If you don't mind the worse graphics and some issues stemming from the 60 fps, then the Gamecube version is servicable. Dreamcast emulation is alright, so it shouldn't be too hard either. PC, there are some modpacks that you can download, but they may or may not depend on which version you have (2004 vs Steam).

Serious question: Does it FULLY SUPPORT MY CONTROLLER?
I doubt it does.
I will have to install some extra keyboard controller mapper program and the game will have 0 controller feedback and as USUAL (this is something you keyboard mouse faggots forget) there is just ONE state of walking, 1,0, which is the only thing possible with a fucking keyboard, unless you hold shift to walk slower or something while you know on a controller you can just slightly hold the analog stick to not fully run and stuff.

ANYWAY I just got

Unless you mean DX being a really bad port that most people played instead of the Dreamcast version (probably including you) then no, it was Shadow's game, Sonic 06, & Secret Rings coming out in a 15-month span that killed credibility. If anything that early 6th gen era with SA2 Battle & Heroes were when Sonic's second peak of popularity came after the initial western Genesis boom.

I wouldn't argue that at all, but it certainly wasn't the beginning of Sonic's downfall in the public perception. SA1 wasn't a success because SEGA as a whole lost 5th gen big time and didn't realistically have a chance with the Dreamcast unless a merger/buyout with MS went through. The idea that Sonic sucks really got prevalent in 05-07.

>>10576395
Sonic on Nintendo hardware sold crazy well for a while. Heroes was the best-selling 3D game in the franchise until Frontiers somehow. Dimps pumped out like 7 or 8 Sonic games for Nintendo handhelds on top of the Wii version of Unleashed. They weren't expensive to make but made profit, and that stayed true pretty much to today, hence why even the worst Sonic games are just roadbumps and not franchise-killers.

It's not arguable, there is a list of well documented bugs that only exist in the DX port. Most of the infamous glitches (like falling through terrain on Emerald Coast) literally do not exist on the Dreamcast version.

Nearly every aspect of SA1 was broken by the DX port: the collision, the lighting, the timing in certain cutscenes.

The best version of this game is the PC version with Dreamcast Restoration mod. It's not arguable at all. It fixes 99.9% of the problems of the DX port, and also keeps all the DX additions (better Chao system, Mission Mode, etc). Plus you can also play all of the exclusive Dreamcast DLC with a simple mod.

SADX Mod Installer was intended to the update to Sonic Adventure Deluxe for the PC that we should have had but never got.

This is done by reimplementing Dreamcast assets (levels, textures, object models, special effects and branding) in the PC version.

sadx-dc-lighting (Lantern Engine) implements the palette-based "Lantern" lighting engine from Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast that was gutted when Sega ported SA1 to GameCube.

For any other retards who struggle to install a mod loader, I decided to do it right now as a test. I will admit, the SADX Mod Manager *used to* just be a one-click install when I installed it years ago, but it looks like development moved to a new program called "SA Mod Manager." So now its like a couple clicks (literally just pressing "yes" and "next" most of the time).
Here's the 5 step guide I created. And granted, the first two steps are literally "click a button and download a thing" so those don't count as real steps for any non-retards. And step 4 is just "upgrade to new mod manager program" which downloads the new program because I accidentally downloaded the old version. So if you know what you're doing, you could probably even skip that step and just do 1, 2, 5 for a simple 3 step process.

Any confusion is probably from there being multiple different (outdated) versions of the mod-loader program floating around on different mirrors on the internet. But even still, as you can see in step 4, the most popular Google search result leads to an installer program literally holds your hand and walks you through the upgrade process anyway.

I am currently playing the Dreamcast version.
Thanks to
>>10574454

but also thanks to the other anon for helping with the PC version.

Anyway I want to give my opinions on this game. At first I thought that maybe I should make a new thread about just talking about this game in general but oh well

I remember how I played it for a few minutes in a store who had a kiosk set up when the game came out but I just found it to be super weird and played Parapper the Rapper and DK64 instead.

Playing it NOW so many years later I can finally see the charm and it's appeal. I can see that this game was meant to be something BIG and that they had so many good ambitions and intentions.

I am also impressed how "modern" this game seems and almost as if Sonic Adventure invented future games to come but maybe I am stretching here. After all it is a movie game, with a shitload of cut scenes and you walk around and another cut scene but it also seems kinda "open world" from back in the day stand point like right after you find Tails you do NOT have to directly go to Tails, you can wander around, that is really interesting.

Still, even today, i think it is fucking weird to see Sonic around normal human beings. YES YES I know Robotnic and shit but back in my day Sonic was from some alien planet called Mebius or however you spell that and now he is living on earth among human beings? I mean there are still all those talking animals but also normal humans???? It is fucking weird. As weird as cartoony Mario walking around in New York (which is not NY but DK City or whatever) in Mario Odyssee and you see all those other "normal" human beings there. So weird.
So what is the explanation for Sonic being there?

I love those cloud backgrounds, so much soul and damn they put a lot of effort into MANY MANY great songs like the game is almost spamming you with music.
Do different language (talky) versions exist besides English and Japanese?

This is a fucking retarded take. Do you actually believe this little quip you made was an intelligent comment?
An installer is just an executable binary file (on Windows, EXE for short). Emulators are also executables binary files. Either one has an equal chance of containing malware, you dumbass. You are not immune from malware by downloading emulators and ROMs.
In both situations, you need to engage with the mod/emulator community and check the general reputability of the creators of the software you download. Really, you should do this with any software you download.

Besides that, it's not hard to run a virus scan on a file before running it (you're retarded if you aren't doing this already). If you're extra paranoid, you can setup a firewall around the EXE so it can't access the Internet. And if you're extra extra paranoid, you can set up a Virtual Machine to test the program first.

Basic computer knowledge and safety practices are not hard. We've had computers for several decades now, you have no excuse for being ignorant.
