I love Duke Nukem 3D Ep2 so much, /vr/os. People always say how Duke is about real life locations and strippers but Lunar Apocalypse is just a great take on Doom Ep1 tech base with it's own share of creepy sci fi stuff, like protozoid infested lunar bases and the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I love the atmosphere. I wish this sci fi side of Duke was explored more, instead of going full blown macho parody.

And an observation, Duke 3D was supposed to have a more dystopic future look during the development. One liners and strippers were added very late, so I guess this is why the final game doesn't go too overboard in this regard and still has traces of serious Duke. Later games like Time to Kill and Forever are already very different thematically. Hell, even The Birth episode from Atomic edition and addons like Life's a Beach are less serious than base game.

As much as I like Duke Nukem 3D the arrival of Quake just a few months later really rendered the build engine obsolete. Sure, DN3D was fun, looked good, played well and it was lighter than Quake at the time but Quake and full 3D games like Tomb Raider and others that came in 1996 were the future.

DN3D was arguably more advanced. It had a higher degree of environmental interaction and more advanced scripting capabilities. Quake 1 Engine was flashier, but it was very bare-bones feature wise. It's why you had more hit games that used the Build engine than the Quake engine, like Shadow Warrior, BLOOD, Redneck Rampage, and Powerslave.

Quake had....Qauke....And Hexen 2....That was about it.

GOG used to have Atomic Edition but it was removed because Gearbox is scum.
They also removed Megaton Edition from Steam so that people would be forced to buy the inferior World Tour version. That's why you can't buy the Duke It Out In D.C., Nuclear Winter, and Life's a Beach expansions anymore.

I have always been looking for this one multiplayer map we used toplay like mad on a Macintosh network in 1999. It was about 6 buildings with a street down the middle and almost endless little tunnels, air ducts and secret passages, so that from any of the 6 buildings you could sneak into any of the others. Big rectangle bit of a city, really. I can't explain it much more than that. The buildings were 2 and 3 stories....

Also, the expander used to be just a single shot to expand like the shrinker. Why the FUCK did they change this? It just makes so much more sense. Make it one shot but give less ammo.
