Just finished this, come and discuss the game with me

Who was your "special friend" in your playthrough

If you say Colette, I'll be thoroughly disappointed.

is it any good? what does it play like? Remember hearing about this in Nintendo Power as a lad but never played it.

To me it feels "outdated", like a ps1 JRPG.
It has a very slow start, like 10 hours before things get interesting.
Also full of obscure shit, so if you are a brainlet like me you will probably end up checking a guide.

It's like watching dragon ball z, the characters have really good chemistry to the point that it's entertaining beyond the context of the story, and it's fun the whole way through. The combat feels great and you can coop the whole thing with a room mate, significant other, family member. Just a comfy game

>> No.10566697

is there a JRPG from this era with more replayability? it's insane that you can drop like 200 hours on a JRPG just to get everything

I thought it was hilarious how Mithos was essentially a deranged SJW who wanted to "solve racism" by mongrelizing everyone into the same "lifeless being" race. Game was very prescient.

Colette, as a teenager I was even extremely worried that she would die like Aerith. If I played the game today it would've been Sheena.

star ocean 3, which is the game the guys who made the first few tales games and then fucked off to square made while namco continued tales with other people and came out a year later on the PS2. it has more mutually exclusive party members, more routes based on what characters like you the most, endless items to craft, way more minigames including a fucking fighting game using the battle system where you can have the party members fight eachother with 2 players or vs ai, and a comical amount of achivements for stuff like beating individual bosses under a time limit or with no damage taken to get rewards.

the game truly goes to an absurd level of excess. however is it better then tos? the plot is kind of the polar opposite of the sort of anime tos is going for, the dungeons are a lot less interesting without all the little puzzles, the combat is more esoteric instead of the more pick up and play smash bros feel of tos. I think they're both very good games but I can see why a lot of people fucking hate it

Colette, when I first played the game when it came out since I didn't know about the relationship values.

When I was in high school, it was Sheena.

Now, as an adult? It's Zelos

Sheena. I played it on release and was 14 years old.

I grew up having great taste in women, like all Sheena enjoyers.

did you like it?
did you like sheenas rad tits?

personally i thought the game was a 6.6/10 kinda mid
dragged on & on for a lot of it
some of the dungeons could be used to torture prisoners or something i guess

usa tales of destiny 2 seemed better to me but it has been a LONG time since i played either

toD2 = i was 14-15
tales of symphonia = i was 17/18
so maybe i was just bored of the genre
i would still repurchase both games mentioned for msrp though
(prob impossible in 2024 aside from remasters/digitals)

Back in 2008, I planned to 100% this game in 3 playthroughs. I still have the spreadsheets on what was missing, girls to talk to with Zelos and etc. But I stopped middle of 2nd run.

I like the battle mechanics, the progression, the combo system. It is a fun game to play once. I want to explore it again for sure.

Tales has always been sorta niche. Even the most recent and successful Tales in the series has been treated like some FOTM (which in Arise's case, honestly was) and then forgotten about

>> No.10575615

>>10575524
The series was mistreated to hell and back for decades overseas. It wasn't until Vesperia that the overseas market got an actually complete release of a Tales game, to say nothing of how many games in the series were outright skipped or had to be begged for to get localized. And it wasn't until Arise that the overseas market got a simultaneous release with Japan.

I played through this at least 10 times.

I only had a GameCube and was starving for RPGs
