The incoming year you will al be screeching when newer devices cannot compete in power against retroid's. This will be a year full of gimmicks like the rgb30 or the rg arc. Even if they feature the t610 you will demand more. But that's probably won't happen until late in the year.

People think this might end up with a D1200 because because it's named RG556 (meaning 5.5" screen, 6th generation chip), and anbernig bossman previously talked about a RG506 that would have a D1200. Basically this hinges on the 6th gen anbernig chip remaining a D1200.

RG arc is awesome just needs a better chip for saturn. Might as well give it the analog triggers though I don't think it's needed.

Also, there are zero good ps1, n64, saturn, or dreamcast games that need the stick AND the dpad. You can just assign the dpad to emulate the stick for dreamcast and 64.

Already did it on other devices and the dpad is totally fine for all those games like ocarina

Yeah I was hoping to pawn it off to someone unawares and was willing to go lower, but losing nearly $100 is just a big no-no for me. I'll just stick with it for now. Playing the OG .hack games feel as good as I thought they would on mobile. I think from here on in I'm gonna be investing in phones for my mobile gaming. If this is considered middle of the road and already doing this well up to the ps2, then I really don't need much more. yeah its fun but its a bit dated
the game has a lot of filler content and not much storyline across all 4 titles
your total playtime across four individual games that you would have been charged for in the early 2000s is going to be about 40ish hours, which is fairly low for even a single jRPG of that era
virus cores are pretty obnoxious, especially in conjunction with balancing infection level and having to data drain data bugs
the item system is rather annoying because the game bombards you with skill scrolls but doesnt give you the inventory space to support them
the combat system is bizarre because its "action" based but you actually just spend most of the time menuing or being locked into place by skills
the ai is non-existent, and party members will likely spam ineffective skils or just plain do nothing until you issue commands
the phases are pretty awful design in so many ways; only skeith ever really felt plot relevant across all of the .hack media AND it has the best design (spooky humanoid that glides around and literally crucifies you and puts you into a coma) as opposed to a lot of the others (a flat fuck png slab, a fucking leaf, 2 heads, etc) and cubia isnt hard just long drawn out fights
idk i can go on and on about how the game lacks in so many ways even for a game of its time
but god ill always love IMOQ and early .hack for the vibes alone

Also, now that I think about it, the whole narrative setup is just incredibly well set up and immersive from the get go. Too many mmo anime/manga go for the extreme, but .hack's mystery's and plot feel like old mmo/internet urban legends. Even G.U. for how over the top it was comparatively kept the story initially feeling like rumors and urban legends. That's a lot better than "Everyone in the game is in a COMA! If you die in the game you die irl!!"

Looking for a device to play dreamcast on with preferably a gameboy form factor- I have a hard on for original gameboy games but also want to be able to play Dreamcast on the go. Might be a stupid ask but does anyone know of a device aside from the R36S or new RG35XX which would meet this criteria? even though those models do play DC, they barely manage it and from the looks of things require frame skip.

Very overpriced, even more so as of late.
RK3566 sucks, poor performance, erratic battery metrics, no sleep mode in Linux.
Android is borderline useless, has issues detecting L2 and R2 on native games, dual booting method they use on stock will corrupt your SD.
Shoulder buttons suck like every vertical chinkheld.
False diagonals again like virtually every chinkheld.

Only positives are the speaker out of the way of your grip and the plastic quality (less that it's anything special but rather not as cheap as it gets, looking at you powkiddy). Flash GammaOS over stock Android.

I don't really care to play Gamecube or PS2 on a small screen, so with that in mind: Which Retroid would you recommend as a first time emulation handheld purchase? I was looking at the 2S as it can handle up to N64/ Dreamcast/ PS1 and thats as far as I'd go, but it has a 3.5" screen which a lot of people complain about, but honestly I was okay with that on a 3DS back when. The 3+ doesn't seem to make sense now with the 4+ around the corner from what I read and the 2S is virtually the same device just better designed and a smaller screen. So really, would I be okay just going for a 2S and saving myself $100 or is the bigger screen THAT good.

I had a similar experience with the steam deck, though I got several defects in a row and actually tried working with customer support to see if there was a defective batch until they basically just said it was "under error" even though there were videos of people having the same issue. I imagine the led has fixed it, but it really soured me towards the whole thing.

I think you recommended that last thread and I was tempted, but they were selling brand new Gen 2 Backbones for 40% off so I figured that was the best way to go as it was quite a bit cheaper.

Looking up BTRFS people still get corrupted drives on sudden power loss. Maybe its just less frequent?
A read only system/rom partition/card would seem more reliable options (and then settings and saves get written to two other partitions), which-those could get data loss in a sudden shutdown, but unlikely, and the damage would be comparably minimal.

I only ADORE my Wall-E. I do not care for the rest, but am willing to bet most Anbernic is pretty on point. I am surprised at the quality of RG280V, and it is THE ONLY handheld I own, I do not hoard these, nor vouch for any other handheld.

I do not even know what is the drama around the brand I got my device last year in November and have been off the scene since then.

Care to elaborate? I have read vague references to CFW drama specifically, care to let me see the whole picture tho? I am curious now.

We gotta let go of these kinda lists since there's so many different use cases for different types of handhelds. Even if Aya Neo Pro is the "most powerful", there's many cases where someone would prefer a Miyoo or a smaller Anbernic for portability, or a clamshell for easy transport. Half the fun of this hobby is that it's not "one size fits all", let's not try to autistically minmax the most "optimal" setup and suck the joy out of it like sweats do with so many other hobbies.

Truth be told, while a bespoke OS was comfy, that's not really it, especially since Daijisho makes the OS feel pretty much like a linux handheld.

I think it may just be that the horizontal form factor feels "modern" to me. PSP, 3DS, Switch Vita. And I know DS isn't exactly old but I was a broke fuck so I got it late enough that it felt old to me.

Playing retro on vertislop just FEELS right. GB/GBC were exclusively vert, and the most popular GBA was the vert revision. In turn that made retro console games feel right in vert, since GBA is where a lot of retro games got their first proper handheld ports.

I'm aware this is almost entirely nostalgia, but it's hard to deny that, despite 2S being the more powerful budget system, I still kinda look at the Miyoo Flip and RG35XX+ longingly

After a couple of days with it, so far the A54 is very decent with emulation up to the ps2. If you can get it for the sale price (around $150) and need a new phone, it's worth it for a budget emulation handheld as well. So far it's running almost every JAPANESE ps2 game at 1.5x resolution at the proper framerate (I was surprised DMC3 ran at a silky smooth 60 fps), and it doesn't run hot either or absolutely destroy your battery like some anons said in the previous thread said.

Now for the negatives, for some reason western games that are more demanding usually run bad. So far I've tried a couple and most have to be turned down to standard resolution and lower some of the graphics settings to make them run "okay". It's weird because some of the Japanese games have much better graphics so I guess that's just a testament to "optimization"(?)

GameCube emulation is also super hit or miss. If it's a first party Nintendo game developed in house it runs just fine, but so far everything else I've tried has some significant frame drops and there's not a lot that can be done to fix it.

So I guess if anyone's curious in the future about this phone and it's emulation capabilities and if it's worth it, there you go. Good for everything up to ps2 and most of the ps2's library, some GC games work as a bonus.

Dunno if there are other phones out there that are better for the price, but at least this'll tide me over for the Retroid Pocket 4+ or whatever that's gonna be.

It also taught me the importance of a handheld being "pocketable" as that was something I didn't think was all that important until now.

Dang, look at all the shit that's come out this past week.
GB300 is the basic Famiclone we all know and hate, but now it's been released as an actual emulation device that can do SNES and GBA apparently, cheaper than an SF-2000 (in more than just price). Look at those silly shoulder buttons, oh my god.
Next one just seems to be a stand-alone version of a battery pack famiclone without the phone charger.
Dy14 looks like a silly copy of the LG Wing/AI Unicorn/RGB30/etc but those buttons and d-pad do look good tho. Shame the analog stick is in the wrong fucking spot.
A20 looks to be the old powerbank/phone battery charger famiclone with new colours and Switch analog sticks now.

...I kind of want to try the Dy14.

That's fair, just figured it was worth documenting as I've seen information on this phone all over the place. I was using a hacked vita before this and so far this is much, much better for emulation. I also find myself using this a lot more for gaming while I'm out and about as it's very easy to just pull it out and start playing on it when I'm not busy. I also like how you can accept calls while you're playing and it's a very inoffensive little pop-up that also let's you put the call on speaker or Bluetooth without pausing or closing the app.

The sad thing is that I think the backbone is probably going to kill its pocketability and I don't think I'm going to be taking that with me everywhere, and using the touchscreen as a controller still doesn't feel good on any 3d games that arent rpgs, but we'll see.

All DotEmu emulators are superb and share the same User Interface, once you learn one you learn all. You can find the cracked APK, but it is worth paying for these, to buy a beer to the dude, this is amazing quality.
All of the emulators they make are great.

Lemuroid is also great, it even scrape the covers by itself, but you must have the correct ROMs for that. It uses Retroarch Cores and will run most emulators in a single APK.

Perfect, the only issue with the deck is how "portable" it actually is and it's battery life. Do you want something mainly for bed and couch play, or do you want something that's gonna go with you everywhere? That's not something I really thought about when getting a deck and didn't end up using it as much as my hacked vita or android phone. It's emulation is great, and it's portable for long trips or when you are staying at a friend's place, but it isn't really something you are going to take everywhere with you.

So the backbone, so far it's super nice as advertised, but there are some gripes.
>I don't like that I feel like I'm "ripping" out the usbc port when I'm disconnecting it. If you try and do it carefully or gently it's just not gonna give
>the whole "works with cases now!" Is borderline false advertisement I don't know how well this picture shows off the depth, but this is a fairly thin case and the usbc port is barely poking through it. I'm tempted to buy a cheap case and just modify it by removing the whole lower half unless there's a usbc extender

Other than that, feels sturdy and works great. Playing DMC3 at 1.5 res with full 60 fps and it feels very, very natural. Still, I wouldn't say the backbone is worth 100 bucks, glad I got it for 70 after s&h. That's about the price I think it's worth... and with that, it's time to play my /vr/ backlog on my phone... or okami for the hundredth time.

I was actually tempted to get that one when you recommended it last thread, only reason backbone won out was they had a deal going that made the newest PS model cheaper than it by about 10 bucks. Still, I've got that page bookmarked in case the backbone starts having some issues and I have to send it back. Also, I kind of wonder if they didn't only test the "case compatibility" with iPhones... but oh well, gives me an excuse to get a cheap, nerdy case and then I'm just gonna have one of my handyman friends cut into the bottom and remove it. The backbone sort of works as a case in and of itself, but I still would feel better with the extra protection.
>>10567059
That's one thing that I'm happy about with the backbone. The A54 is relatively large already, and with the backbone on there it's still pocketable, but sticks out a bit. It's just a bit smaller than a switch length wise, but it's thin enough that if you needed to you could quickly pocket it... but, as that's not ideal, the controller itself is small enough that you could just throw that in your other pocket if need be or leave it in the car. I think the retroid pocket 4+ is still gonna be king when it comes to a GC/PS2 you can comfortably fit in your pocket, but like I said earlier, while I'm waiting on them to iron everything out with the initial release or a really good sale, this is a very nice alternative.

But I don't carry my New 3DS out and about with me, haven't since like fucking 2018. This entire setup is literally just for playing 3DS games and maybe a little N64/PS1 while I stick to playing my GBA and DS games on my phat DS, and maybe some Roblox (What can I say, Sonic Speed Simulator is one of the best Sonic games in a decade and when my nephews want me to play that Pet Simulator world with them, I CANNOT fucking play it with touch screen controls, it's a fucking nightmare).

Also, the GKD Mini seems to have far better hardware and buttons than the GKD Pixel. They were really just trying to make a better RG Nano to upshow Anbernic, which they successfully did, but at this point anyone who doesn't have the Miyoo Plus or the RG35XX is likely going to want the RG35XX Plus. These novelty nano/micro devices have started to wear out their welcome with only feasibly being able to play NES/GB/GBC games simply due to their size, even if they can technically run GBA/PS1/even DS and N64, the resolution is scrunched or the pixel density is too intense for the human eye to fucking see it. And even then, people enjoy it for a novelty for one or two minutes at a time and won't actually want to play NES/GB/GBC games on something unless it's at least the size of an official GBmicro.

Nah, don't put yourself down. There's a reason emulation filters a lot of people. Knowing how to search for the answers to issues you're having can set you apart from the filtered normies though. Chances are that if you're having an issue with the dreamcast emulator through retroarch on your deck, somebody else had the same issue and there is already several answers for it.

Not if you have any semblance of literacy and can actually read the posts you reply to, anon. The argument is that it's justified to pay the modern price of a "AAA" video game, which is $69.99 USD, for a handheld that can play 8-bit games. Which the post you replied to then states you can play 8-bit games on a $6 device just as well. Maybe next time try actually reading the post you're replying to, let alone the post it's responding to for context.

There reaches a point where quality supersedes value. These bootleg famiclones are cheap sure, but if someone on the street just pulled a mystery-meat sandwich out of their pocket and said "only fifty cents!", it doesn't matter that it's a fraction of the price of a Big Mac.

Also, this is a hobbyist thread on a hobbyist board. People wouldn't be having conversations in this place if they didn't feel some form of investment, and proposing these people should just use bootleg famiclones would be like going to an audiophile thread and just saying "You know, Walgreens headphones only cost ten bucks, better than a hundred dollar set". Lockable content is content already part of the game but you have to pay additional fees to access it.
Microtransactions, with literally "micro" in the fucking name, is when you pay a small amount for additional resources/unlocking locked content faster/easier. Loot crates are microtransactions. New skins are dlc. Entire companies pushed to make an entire generation believe it's all the same thing.

Buying a new track for Guitar Hero or Rock Band is a dlc, it literally adds new content.
You paid money to add one song to the background while you played a mobile game, lmao, rotflmao

Yep. I wasted $2 on a cosmetic ingame item. It was not a high value use of $2, despite me enjoying the other nusic for several hours while playing it. I never pretended otherwise. You're the one saying "my low value spending habits are different!!!"

>Guitar hero song
How many hours of entertainment per dollar is that again, Mr. "my microtransactions are totally different?

1990. It was a thing in double dragon 3 arcade machines. Second life was a thing by 2003, and was not the first online example.

Well damn, they did exist. I was of the mindset that they were exclusively an online thing. But they still weren't called microtransactions at the time.
