It's the most lifeless, design-by-committee, mind-numbingly generic game I've ever played in my life. I remember playing it when it came out and after a while I just couldn't stomach it - and back then I'd play ANYTHING that called itself an "RPG". For real, Legend of Dragoon probably was the first JRPG I ever put down in my life.

It’s really good, but I personally find ff7 better but I’m a lorefag and the whole amnesia thing was new to me at the time even if it’s an overused trope before than. Still amazing soundtrack beautiful world and I really ended up digging the timed attacks for bonus damage after I got the hang of it. Also, while I enjoy the story some beats just get totally dropped where as imo, the story of ff7 steadily got better the deeper I went in. Also I think 9 is equal if not better but it also suffers from story beats just kind of petering out after heavy build up. All 3 are classics.

The addition system isn't button mashy whatsoever, it's all timing based. You won't land a single addition by button mashing mindlessly. Makes battles way more engaging. One of the coolest features in the game IMO.
