I mean, can you blame them? Their culture is such that the ultimate goal in life is to gain a stable salary job in some company, and once you do, it's a soul-sucking rat race where you work extremely long hours and maybe drink with co-workers afterward, day in and day out, and your lot only ever improves by sticking it out as long as possible until you obtain promotions through seniority. Whether this happens or not, your life is basically no longer yours the moment you leave college and become a salaryman, and the alternatives (part-time jobs that barely pay or neetdom) are even worse. So yeah, I get why they'd idolize youth the way they do.

The writing specified that she was a prodigy that ended up graduating early and getting a job at a much earlier age than most of the other teachers. Her age as a teacher was definitely not treated as a standard in the game's own world.

I don't know if you'ce seen it but there's a huge contrast between live actual japanese media and anime/JRPG. the live action stuff is always miserable and depressing. JRPGs and anime instead are a coping mechanism to the real world

Did anyone here even play FF8? Her whole deal is that she was a child prodigy who was pressured and fast-tracked into becoming an instructor. She hates her life as a result, because being a teacher doesn't allow her to have social relationships with people her own age. That's why she's happy when she gets fired and immediately tries to nail Squall.

I have gained a bigger appreciation for FF8 over the years. It's inconsistent, but the highs are very high and it tried do do something different. I also think that Squall is a genuinely fun character >>10540314, although he apparently suffered from the English translation not being that good and aggravating his worst traits.

Even in the Japanese versions he's dull. The game just isn't good at actually exploring and developing it's ideas. Quistis has a start of an arc but nothing ever comes from it. She just makes a series of blunders but never matures. Every other character ranges from just as incompetent to completely pointless.
