>jumps straight to gameplay
>replaces dull boring dungeons with amazing Zelda-esque ones
>fast combat (and you can still easily avoid fights)
why the FUCK don't other RPGs do this?

>> No.10536035

Different strokes for different folks. I have never had a big puzzle fetish, I actually hate puzzles and only tolerate them in RPGs, so you can guess I'm not a big Zelda fan.

>> No.10536036

gamers are retarded and dont deserve anything good. they simply want games that can play themselves. there is your answer.

i liked and finished lufia 2 twice but i have dropped every single zelda game after about 2 hours

I like both, though Zelda went over my head long time ago. Nintendo games typically suck as "RPGs", Zelda is like a top down Metroid where combat and leveling up is secondary to exploration & puzzles

>> No.10536205

Lufia 2 is really great! I like monster companion system too. I like the realistic love story. Tia loves Maxim and simps for him. Maxim falls for the hotter, stronger Selan. Tia realizes this and excuses herself from the quest. No heroic sacrifice to prove her love, no heel turn. She just goes home. Something mature about that.

Only zelda game I liked was zelda II on the NES as a kid. Zelda II is the only title I've actually enjoyed. All the rest, I tried them, but didn't hit the same. Hated the original one. All the hidden entrances, and the bombs you had to waste on Zelda I was absurd.

This game only has two downsides

1. Final boss fight was lame
2. The broken sword palace in the US version.

And maybe the fact that you don't have battle animations but that's not a huge deal to me.

there is no game that has it all, this game has cool animations and characters, but it also has mandatory grinding you won't even know about without a guide

if there is one thing i learned it's that there is no perfect game, especially with rpgs, they all do some things right but have some flaws and its only your preference as to which you enjoy over others

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with having 4 flavours of ice cream that are all fucking fantastic. That's what I love about the SNES era RPGs. There is something for everyone. If you enjoy RPGs I would say you need to play

1. Lufia 2
2. Chrono Trigger
3. FF2+3 (4+6)
4. Breath of Fire 2 (I personally hate this game though a lot of people like it)
5. Terranigma
6. Mario RPG
7. Tales of Phantasia
8. Secret of Mana (Action RPG)

I like how for Bow, they pretty much used the same design and pose as his official art but they just gave him rabies.

JRPGs are for people who can't stand any challenges. They just want to mash a button mindlessly for 40 hours, and anything that makes the game more interesting is just a nuisance to them. This is why basic gameplay enhancements (puzzles in dungeons, ability to avoid encounters in the overworked, timed attacks/dodges, etc.) have never caught on.

Yes, I love that and miss it. Cool cover that is only the imagination of the artist based either on what they told him the game is or what he thought after seeing gameplay.

I stopped playing around level 75-85 as well. Once the z-tokens came out all soul was lost. Josh Hayes did a decent video that followed AQs main quest, but I was disappointed that he missed out on the early side quests that had the game's REAL charm (the one I remember the most was the Steve Irwin Zard parody)

I mostly play action and fighting games. JRPGs remain the hardest genre for me.

I don't even believe people who say they beat these games as kids, most of them you need a guide.

no you dont. for most games you just pay attention when characters talk. when in doubt, talk to npcs and get directions on where to go. even IF thats not an option anymore, just walk around and visit places. like, MAYBE if you have a SHIT memory and dont remember what you were doing and/or stopped playing for a few days and came back, it might be harder, but otherwise they're pretty straightforward.

What happens when there's a puzzle where you have to input a series of movements, essentially a cheat code, as part of the regular game? Try one million times till you get it right? Who the fuck had the patience for that.

>> No.10542726

im assuming you're talking about the regrowing plants puzzle.
you know the objective (cut the plants)
you know that every action counts
you know that you have limited actions before a plant fully grows
the plants all grow from the same spots at the same rates, at the same set amount of actions
just plan your moves, be efficient, dont forget that you can pivot (which doesnt take an action), learn from your mistakes.
if you cant do that much, then you're fucking retarded. if you have time to grind battles and bullshit, you have time to figure out a simple puzzle.

and if you're not talking about that, and/or are talking about another game (since the claim was "most of them"), please explain.

eh
it's got some pluses, and some minuses
it's not a terribly big surprise this series failed to touch Final Fantasy
frankly I'm enjoying it now simply because it has a fast clean UI and text boxes that don't get in my way, it's nice and streamlined, but let's not sell it for more than it is

BoF2 is proof that it's possible for game media to be soulful even when it misses the original mark.
