This game spent a lot of time in my game boy. Certainly less than Pokemon Blue, but probably more than Pokemon Gold.

I remember having this game as a kid and never making any real progress. As an adult I've been getting more into DQ, beat 8 on the 3DS when it came out, 11 a couple years ago, and just beat 1+2 on GBC a few days ago. my plan has to been continue playing all the mainline games, but with the new DQM game out on switch and then remembering this game, I've been considering trying some spinoffs. Are the monster games worth playing alongside the main series, or something to come back to after finishing mainline?

It was really cool back in the day because it had a lot of the full suite of modern Pokeautism (breeding, base stats, hidden abilities) but in a Gameboy game before Pokemon even tried breeding.

Nowadays it's kinda held together by nostalgia. I think they still make DQM games so the modern ones might be more your style.

But mainline DQM just got a new release on the Switch like a week ago so that's pretty cool

I still have the cart but it needs fixing as a puppy I used to own chewed on it. luckily it was only the shell that was damaged. Gen 1 was a grindfest, gen 2 was more so but with certain keys. I hate that I sold it too cause I had the special monsters from the nintendo power magazine competition

I've never played it, is it that bad? It's in the backlog. But yeah the PSX Dragon Quest Monsters looks fucking beautiful and I've been waiting ages for it. Played (and finished) the Joker games in the meantime, but honestly I thought these sucked big time when compared to the originals.

Caravan Heart is, well imagine Dragon Quest V except you can ONLY recruit monsters and there are all these bullshit rules added to suck out any sense of fun or adventure. You can't even breed monsters which is the meat and potatoes of the DQM games. It's an embarrassment and as the last game Enix developed before merging with Square, it wasn't exactly going out with a bang.
