No... it's just that I'm sort of autistic so when my hyperfocus is on an IP and/or video games I can beat them more regularly. Also, I tend to go for titles that aren't too difficult, nor too long, so I can often beat them on the day I pick them up.

>>10524250
Well, a lot of the times it's just me being quite curious to see how the versions differed, if they were almost the same then I can finish fast since I already know what to do, and if they're unique it's a whole new playthrough and I find it fun for it being new and different alone. With GG/SMS I find that I enjoy the SMS version for visibility, as it's got a bigger screen resolution, but GG has a lot more color and looks nice with LCD shaders, again it's just me being autistic about it I guess.

>>10524256
Of course! I actually beat a lot more than 38, but I tried making a list with only stuff I beat for the 1st time, though I love replaying my favorites on days where I need something more comfortable to cool down from stress and just enjoy playing.

>>10524278
If I went into detail with everything, I wouldn't have enough characters, since the limit is 2000, of course I could write more than just an OP, but then I'd end up making a blog out of this, usually when I really liked what I just beat, I make a new thread dedicated to it so I can discuss it with /vr/ and all. I don't see video games as a checklist...

You’re good ignore the embittered faggots on here who hate everything including retro games but are here for some reason. Seeing someone else (yourself) playing and enjoying games reminds them of their misery, it’s a mirror. Good thread, although I can’t play the same game like you can so I usually look for the agreed upon “””best””” version. I will make an exception for handheld versions as they’re often times radically or entirely different games, I really enjoy seeing that difference.

>>10524349
I get that, in a way I miss having traditional handhelds for that reason alone, nowadays it's all just a single version, sure most of the handheld ports from the 2000's and 2010's, before that whole part of the industry sort of died, were shovelware, but there were gems here and there, and when I like an IP and/or video game, it's cool to see other versions, it's like having 2 chocolate bars instead of just 1, which is absolutely dope.

Cheers, anon!

I don’t know what the modern equivalent of that is if it even exists. Switch games are obviously the same, mobile games are always gacha trash. Maybe pico 8 demakes are the closest we get to a “handheld version” lol

True, I should probably look more into them, I know they're a thing, but I rarely dive deeper into them than that, perhaps it's about time I did. I've grown to really resent the mobile market more than all others because of this, it should've been the replacement to something I really liked, but instead it's just microtransactions and/or ad filled garbage that's downright insulting at times.

Of course you're not a bad person, anon! It's fine to not finish what you play, let's be honest most of us had trouble with NES and SNES/Genesis titles as kids due to their difficulty and never finished them anyways, and that's just fine. If I can repeat, then I'd say most Natsume, Capcom and Konami games from the 4th-gen. In fact, I mostly play that gen, with some exceptions from the 3rd and 5th gen. Staples in my finished games are:
>Mega Man (2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and Bass)
>Mega Man X (1 through 4)
>Castlevania (Super IV, Bloodlines and Rondo of Blood)
>Contra (Spirits and Hard Corps)
>Super Mario World (and Yoshi's Island)
>Sonic the Hedgehog (1 and 2)
>Pocky & Rocky (1 and 2)
>Wild Guns
>The Ninja Warriors Again
>Shinobi III (and Shadow Dancer)
>Gunstar Heroes
>Twinkle Tale
>Super Metroid
>Zelda: A Link to the Past
>Bomberman (Super 1 through 4, '94 and Saturn)

And some more. I do what I can to beat each once a year. If I'm feeling like it, I may try a new game, but that mostly doesn't end well.

I think a lot of us have these staples we always go back to, it's like comfort food, but with video games! I tend to replay titles that I know are quick to go from start to finish, and that won't be too easy, nor too difficult, just that sweet spot of picking it up, struggling a bit, but ultimately getting to the end in about an hour or less... it's just comfortable. A lot of superb stuff! May I recommend Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin in case you want to try out something new? Damn, not going to lie. Reading that really changed my perspective on a lot of things. How I want to approach things, situations, people. I think you have it right, and I've had it wrong for far too long. I think this was an insightful and enlightening post, even if many would call it simple and obvious, and maybe it is, and maybe I should've figured it out sooner, but sometimes epiphanies hit you when you're least expecting them, and I think this is one of those times. None of us know the answer... anon. Only thing that's certain is that, if you give up, you'll never make it, but if you keep going, one day at a time, you have a chance... is it 50%? 10%? I don't know, wish I did and that I could tell you, but sadly it's one of those thing that we'll only be certain will happen... when it's already happening, so keep going one day at a time, and it might come. It's what happened to me at least, I just did my best to not torture myself about it, and eventually it just came to me when I least expected it, life is quite unpredictable sometimes.

N64 bomberman is an entirely different genre to classic bomberman. They are action adventure games with collectathon elements, not arcadey action games with a primarily multiplayer focus like classic bomberman (though they do have multiplayer). That said I think they are great, Bomberman 64 is one of my favorite N64 games.

I didn't really finish as many /vr/ games as I thought I did.
>1. Super Monkey Ball 2's Story Mode
I'm not good enough to get to Master, but I am good good enough to get through some of 2's more gimmicky levels.
>2. Luigi's Mansion
I did a Hidden Mansion playthrough later on and got an A rank, so I guess that's 100% (unless you could getting all the gold frames.)
>3. Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland
I beat it 100% for the first time on both normal mode and extra mode this year, I'm just replaying a childhood game otherwise
>4. Mario Tennis
I didn't beat the Rainbow Cup but I did just about everything else, not a fan of having to finish the Star Cup on singles with every character to unlock the final three cups.
>5. Mario Power Tennis
Bought this on a whim and finished the star cup with Daisy and DK, and unlocked everyone else. Definitely need to do more but I saw the credits and that's what counts.
>6. Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
I finally beat it for the first time this year after getting filtered so many times before, I found it shorter than I remembered it being. Also Chopper Bros. and Advanced Knockback Bros are hilariously broken moves
>7. Super Mario Sunshine
I finally got around to playing this after shitting on it for years and found it's not as bad as I thought it would be, but at the same time this game's lows are REALLY fucking low. Also it's really obvious this game was unfinished just by playing it. I definitely wanna finish this one 100% before the year is over, at least.

Same, my list had 40 titles, with only 2 not being retro, it's a shame because I went from a nice and round 40 to a 38... until last night where I finally finished my Sonic Advance 2 save, where I was stuck on the final boss, due to the boss rush that comes before it, and then I also beat the Game Gear version of TECMO World Cup '93 since it had been a long time since I last played the Master System version I love so much, and it's just as good as I remember. Well, dragon quest for one, but I'm feeling lazy to play some old JRPGs. I wanted to finish the Shenmue games but I hear the 2nd game has a cliffhanger and isn't even solved in the 3rd game. Overall, I'm just looking for a console that alone should be enough for me for some time.

Well, what usually helps me when I'm struggling to find something that sticks is to go for shorter titles that I know are about 30 minutes long... do I beat them in 30 minutes? No, of course... but if I know that I'm 30 minutes away, or less, from the final boss, from the hero's triumph, I get the feel that I should push through... you know, "just one more attempt" and all, so arcade ports are great.

>> No.10528704

And I don't mean like I haven't started one, I mean I don't have one. Every so often in my life I feel like I finally create a pseudofamily with a group of friends that become close enough that it feels like one, but it seems like life keeps ripping those from under me too.

It just doesn't seem like I'm supposed to belong anywhere. Even on here, I feel like I don't fit in, and this is where the misfits go. Sad.

But I want to believe ...

I know this will sound generic, and it really is, but the reason it's said so often is because it's true. I looked for a relationship all of my life and it just never happened, and as soon as I stopped caring it just... came to me. Also, one thing I realized as I began dating, is that while it's great and I love my partner, it's also difficult, there were times I was deeply hurt and felt negative emotion too often.

It's not for everyone, and I can definitely see that some people can geuinely be happier without a relationship than with one... also, you can't wait for a relationship to be happy, because if you do then that means your happiness depends 100% on one person, and if she goes away at any point in your life... so does your happiness, and that's a dangerous thing. We have to be happy alone too.

One more thing, about family, I really don't know what to say, I suppose friend groups can help as a replacement, but it's not a very good one, since friends go their different ways as life goes along and the whole point of family is that you'll always be connected even if life tries to separate you, it isn't an easy thing to replicate... I just hope when you talk to us here, it brings you some joy, anon.

My eldest has an addiction to mega man and fighting games. Dude had a moment of clarity when I brought the saturn up to him since it’s version of mega man 8 has a bunch of hidden stuff for him to play. My youngest really enjoys the Sonic games which is nice to see. I sometimes fear what I'm doing to them, being a Sega fan is hell at times.

I get the feeling that I'll go through similar struggles... but I feel SEGA, with its arcade style and all, making the player grind and have to work for the gratification of winning, can be quite good for kids in terms of their attention span, delaying gratification, putting in the work, dealing with anger issues, etc.

I accept you, anon. It's a nice feeling, but you must NOT seek for acception. If you're accepted, that's cool, glad it happened, just don't rely on it to keep on living. It's a spice, not a main ingredient. I say that because every single person, no matter how awesome they are, won't be 100% accepted in any enviroment. Try your best to be a good man, for yourself even, and if people misjudge you, that's their problem.

About 4chan, remember that not all the flak you receive has ill intentions behind it. Many of those are just ironic.

Finished 100% the 6 Megaman Battlenetwork games on the GBA version, it was a really great ride of 6 months and surprisingly good lore-wise.
BN1 is outdated but still payable, BN2 is great and BN3 is great the more you play it, BN4 was boring to do 100% and BN5 liberation missions really haven't been fun to do, but BN6 is really a game well made and good enough to be a ending to the series.
Next year i want to buy the collections, since they add what was cut from non-JP versions + PvP servers on BN6.

I played more, but this is all of the /vr/ stuff I actually finished this year:
Super Mario Land DX
Star Wars Dark Forces
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Planescape Torment: Enhanced Edition
MyHouse.wad
Resident Evil 4
Katamari Damacy REROLL

It varies from year to year, but I finished a lot more non-retro games than I did retro this time around. Overall total was 44.

>> No.10533678

If we are talking pure /vr/
Wario land 3 (thought it was “fine”)
Metroid zero mission/Super metroid (pretty fun)
Metroid fusion (linear but a good experience)
Gunstar superheroes (not as good as the original)
Ninja cop 5-O (fun handheld game)
Aria of sorrow (fun for a metroidvania)
Pacman world 2 (janky but fun)
Ninja Gaiden 1 (hard as hell but fun)

i didnt beat a lot of games this year, i kind of burned out halfway through.
For just /vr/ i had:
mega man
mega man 2
super mario land 2 (replay)
Adventure Island
Metal Gear
Kirby's Dream Land (replay)
Final Fantasy III
Mega Man 3
F-Zero
Donkey Kong Country
Adventure Island 2
Mega Man: Dr Wily's Revenge (replay)

I hope to get back to more of the mega man franchise next year. And i'm trying to wrap up DKC2 and Earthbound Beginnings before the end of the year.
Idk when i'll get around to the rest of the Adventure Island games, those make me insane.

It really is a huge difference, for me it's the opposite, I manage to finish a lot more retro stuff, not just because I play it more, but because it's so much shorter usually, almost 40 modern titles finished is impressive.

A lot of the modern games I played through this year were smaller indie games, and a lot of the retro games I really wanted to play and kept putting off were kinda long. I should keep some shorter retro stuff downloaded to burn through when I just have a little free time.
I actually started a lot of RPGs this year, both retro and modern, but Planescape: Torment was the only one I ended up finishing.

Hey, hey, Anons! Here's the games I beat this year (so far):

I was originally gonna post all these games with my ?/5 STARS ratings next to them (I didn't use the ; symbols, cause they look a lil off in my notepad ;p), but I refrained cuz I didn't wanna give fuel to flame wars and ruin this cute thread! BTW, thanks for making it, Positivity-Anon!

dunno man, I don't really keep track. I also end up playing nothing because I worry too much if I should play it on real hardware or emulated, LCD or CRT, the version of the game and have too much choice. I went through all the roms and deleted loads that I know I won't play and Eur versions, betas, alphas, aternative and so on, so might play something soon. been wanting to play Uncharted Waters only because I'm portuguese
I completed Jet Set Radio Future, Street Fighter 1, 2 and 3, played some PS2 ones from when I was a kid like Puzzle Bubble, Metal Slug X, Tenkaichi 3 and Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja 5 and watched High Score Girl, which made me finally complete the arcade version of SF2.

Sonic 1
Stray
Resident Evil 2 Claire A
Superhot
Resident Evil 2 Leon B
Resident Evil 3
Air Combat
Ace Combat 2
Quake 2
Sigma Star Saga
Clockwork Knight
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

You should've read it. My reply, for instance, tells how I replay the same games over and over because of lack of time. I can easily beat 40+ games in a year... but the same 40+ games, each one averaging in a hour or less (except a few 3 to 5-hour games). That would be one quick playthrough for a whole week. I hope to find more time in the future. Who knows.

I forgot about Mario Land, played through that maybe a month or so ago. I had it as a kid, and it was better than I remember. I also attempted Ninja Gaiden at some point. Amazing game, was loving every second of it... until I got to the final boss, and saw just how far back the game sends you when you lose to him. I simply do not have the patience to replay the final three stages of the game just to have one more shot at the boss.

I finally got around to reading the thread, and I'm actually glad to see that I'm not the only one struggling with finding time for games. This has been a much more positive thread than the last thread like this that I participated it. In the last one, folks were talking about playing 5+hours a day as though this was perfectly normal. And when I politely asked how people were finding this kind of time, I ended up inadvertently derailing the thread into a dogpiling of anons shitting on me for being a moron who can't into time management. It made me sad, because they weren't wrong. Those of you with enormous lists, how do you do it? Can you share some time management advice with a sad anon?

>Can you share some time management advice with a sad anon?
Me again. What can't be done, can't be done. Time can't be created, but better allotted... and only if your schedule allows it. That being said, here are some points that might help you:

>Pick shorter games, since the longer ones may give you trouble to consistently play them, risking abandonment and dragging you down.
>Revise your schedule and genuinely define if each activity in it is really necessary. Get rid of whatever isn't meaningful to you.
>Keep your eye open for procrastinating activies, like social media or masturbation. They're not bad per se, but only if properly controlled.
>Make sure to stick to games you actually like, so they can properly hook you in. Avoid playing stuff you feel uncomfortable with, just because everyone else likes it or because you saw it an "omg u must play" list.

Hope this helps you somehow.

Adding Thief 2 to the list. Great game, just wish they put one mission or two between Casing The Joint and Masks (or just removed the first one). Since they're back to back missions in the same area it feels repetitive, while they're fine missions in themselves.

I just like the story spawning 3 games, with each game describing one side of the story, the parts where the sides "collide" were neat. Plot was ok for a SRPG, it had enough ideas to keep me interested, and they managed to keep a decent amount of gimmick variety for the maps to make each one kind of unique and keep it fresh (even if some of the gimmicks were tedious). I like the world in the Shining Force games so that was a plus.
