I've been trying to like Ristar for almost 30 years now but I just can not get into it. The graphics are a solid 10/10 for me, beautiful game but that's where it ends. The game play is just no fun and is a terrible slog. I am really trying to like this game but I can't.

I beat it out of spite. You have to stop trying to have fun and start being relentless to get to the end of this game. Stop exploring the levels, try to hoard as many 1-ups as you can at all times. Then, you will start to "have fun" with it.

Also, this cool little rearrange of this game's sountrack played a big part in inspiring me to beat this game. It's just so cool.

I hate to admit it but I agree but then again I've only ever tried the first.

Maybe I should play the second or the third that's only on PlayStation or something? I don't know much about him except me watching the cartoon and I love The Neverhood and the comics by Doug.

ristar is gorgeous but yes the core controls and walk speed make it a slog

the songbird level is the most annoying gimmick in the game

That one was fun, the main mechanic was put to good use. Shame that the game gear had more interesting grabbable items than the Mega Drive version. The fire level is probably the one I like the least.

If you figure out how to use your moveset properly its a lot of fun, the levels are like big jungle gyms that are a blast to navigate once it clicks. If that doesnt work for you then yeah you just don't like it, but Ive watched people that dont like it play and theyre usually just walking around barely using the grab to navigate except when strictly necessary which is too bad.

The only part of the game that I really dislike are the bosses. The levels themselves are fine, it's cool that you can climb up walls like in Mega Man X, but it doesn't break the game.

Same here. The grabbing aspect is neat but I don't think it's good enough to carry the whole game. To be honest I have no idea how one could make Ristar but good. It's an oddity.

I like it. The grab mechanic feels more forgiving and easier to use. You have infinite continues. The game still looks gorgeous and has some good tunes, although not as much as the Mega Drive version. The only flaws is that the game starts becoming really cheap by the end, difficulty-wise. I still prefer the MD version, but GG is overall easier to get into imo. There are some exclusive gimmicks.

Earthworm jim 1: never beaten the game because of the sea race stage.

Earthworm jim 2: feels sort of limited, but still the only earthworm jim videogame i like.

Earthworm jim 3: boring and annoying.

Earthworm jim menace 2 the galaxy: the same as earthworm jim 3.

There's no glory without struggle. No fun without frustration. No beating this game until you memorize all the stupid bullshit and the 1-up locations scattered about. Hating these games is a necessary step.

It takes a while to get used to because everyone expects it to play like a Sonic but its far slower and more deliberate.

I don't agree that "If you don't enjoy it the first time and have to persist, then you simply don't enjoy it and never will."... but there's a limit too, anon. If you've been TRYING to like it, but can't, for 30 YEARS... then it's just not doing it for you and that's fine, move on and play anything else.
