Summarizing my thoughts on the RP4/Pro
The Good
>Start/Select on the face now, hallelujah
>2S/Odin 2 sticks instead of dinkly Switch sticks
>Home button on the face now instead of on side
>Volume on top where start/select used to be instead of on side
>Back button added
>Analog triggers
>4 should play a lot more Gamecube/PS2 than before, 4 Pro should play everything Gamecube/PS2 tier except the rare exceptions like MGS2
>still the same size as RP3 so should be mostly pocketable
>Pro can be docked
The Negative
>2S sticks are good but still not as good and comfortable as full size sticks although I count this as less of a negative than it is on the Odin 2 since the RP4 is a much smaller device while the Odin 2 had no excuse not to use full size sticks
>using the same shell is also kind of a negative because it means they couldn't make it more ergonomic and add some grips to the back. Probably going to shill their grip add-ons again.
>screen could be seen as a negative to some. 3/3+ screen is good but some people might have wanted a bump in quality. Also might still be too small for some.
Overall I think it's an absolute win. Fixed everything I didn't like about the RP3+. I already have a 2S so I'm a little apprehensive about getting one but it's very tempting to replace it with this and just have one device that can be both my pocket device and the device I use for local streaming at home.

Summarizing my thoughts on the PSP 3000
The Good
>has headphone jack
>has wi-fi capabilities like FTP support
>built in radio
>built in web browser
>native ps1 support
>native pc engine support (annoying to setup though)
>extensive homebrew support
>colorful and bright screen
>video out which outputs ps1 games at 240p
>RSS feed support
The Negative
>screen has some interlacing issues, but it's not noticeable in most situations
>a lot of snes games dont run at full speed, many dont work at all
Overall I think it's an absolute win. Fixed everything I didn't like about the PSP 1000 like terrible screen. I already have a PSP 2000 so I'm a little apprehensive about getting one but it's very tempting to replace it with this and just have one device that can be both my pocket device and the device I use for local internet browsing at home's wi-fi.

What has everyone here been playing? I'm testing out some ROMs I had laying around that I've been curious about, mainly The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Game Boy, a sequel to Rare's title, that one actually felt pretty decent to play, this sequel was made by BITS and, while not as fun, it's interesting for being the 1st Spider-Man MetroidVania, there's also that GBC port of Neversoft's Spider-Man which functions as one, Mysterio's Menace on GBA has MetroidVania elements, and there's the DS stuff aswell, Spider-Man had tons of them.

I got an old action figure of mine for the photo, thought it'd be fun, I had a ton of bootleg figures of Spider-Man growing up, this one was exciting as a kid since it had a light int the middle, which Spider-Man would sometimes use at his 1994 animated series, though it doesn't work anymore, it's quite old afterall.

It's one of the many satisfying aspects of playing retro video games to me, going back to something that gave your childhood self so much trouble, that felt difficult or even impossible at times... and doing it. I mean, sure, it's only natural that, as we get older, we become more competent to do things, including video games, but it's still a special feeling, like you're finishing a chapter of your life that was still pending. I hope you manage to get to the end and finish the whole thing, anon, avenge your childhood self, it's always fun to do so, at least for me.

My friend was telling me he wanted to get a Gameboy to play Pokemon on and I told him he should get a chinkheld instead. I have an RG35XX and I love it, but I'm running custom firmware and I've edited the retro arch configs (in notepad) and that more technical stuff is part of what I like about it. My friend isn't going to do any of that shit. He's not techy at all.

My question is, what has the best out of the box experience with minimal setup that I can just recommend to someone? Something they can just turn on and start playing and they don't have to flash an sd card? Something less than $75. I was thinking either the RG35XX/plus or the miyoo mini plus. Also some Dreamcast like SEGA Rally 2, Tokyo Extreme Racer 2, The Ring, etc have some issues running in Flycast if you want to choose the more demanding settings to iron out obnoxious visual glitches. Something like Redream can run SEGA Rally 2 just fine on the chip, but FUCK paying for the ability to upscale. Also have a DS Lite and that thing is still going strong even though I've bought it used and it had significant scratches etc. on it. The original DS is really comfortable and there's some cool color variations out there, but I wouldn't trust it to last. I also used to own (sold it sadly) a yellow DSi XL and that's probably my fav revision of the system. It's not super comfortable to use, but damn bro the display is fucking fire. Sharp, beautiful pixels, loved it. Plus the DSi is a bit better with emulating other systems than the OG DS, so you get to enjoy quite a few games on that screen.

I played a lot of PS1 games on my PSP, but I don't know if it actually emulated those or used some kind of virtualization for them. Those ran well.

A C is fine, a B is good, and an A is great. At a certain point it's no longer a hardware issue but a software issue, and the PSP's issue is that the SNES emulation on it was "fine" and then given up on, never to be improved upon since the 2000s. But what most people want is not just flawless, 100% emulation of an entire library, but usually to also be able to do more with them as well such as properly-scaled upscaling, filters, background applications, fast forwarding, etc.

As far as I know there is no all-purpose PS3 emulator that just runs most PS3 games, each title had to be manually made emulatorable by a team of ragtags, the only one with any considerable effort put behind it being Metal Gear Online from MGS4. Sort of like how the Xbox 360 artificially emulates the og Xbox, but any title that runs has to be manually brought over to the Xbox emulator to run and even then how well it runs is up to the people working on it (I weep for how badly JSRF runs on the 360).

>You're not going to be confusing them and hitting the wrong ones by accident anymore than you'd be hitting the wrong keys on your keyboard.

The big reason four face buttons became the standard is because it works best for twitch reaction button inputs. You don't even have to actually move your thumbs position, you can just slightly rock it around. Six buttons only really works that well on fighter sticks, because your fingers have a much broader range than your thumb, but for a controller you grip, 4 buttons is best

To use your keyboard comparison, it's the same reason almost every gameplay key with mouse and keyboard is centered around WASD, so you don't have to move your hand around while playing

Most games that favor the left analog stick for movement use the four shoulder buttons for actions, the only genre I cant think of that doesn't is platformers and even recent big entries like Sonic Fronties use mostly the shoulder buttons, not the face buttons, for most movement and actions.

interesting thing about frameskipping and vsync in particular on snes emulation on psp i noticed. enabling vsync dips performance for obvious reasons, but no vsync is really noticeable if you do try and play at full speed (a lot of games can be run full speed on psp believe it or not), but with frame skipping screen tearing is actually less noticeable. i always try to find balance between underclocking and frameskipping. underclocking was always guilty pleasure of mine on all portable devices

So I ordered another gamesir x2 bluetooth ao I can have a back up and exchanged my backbone so a new one is on the way. Fingers crossed that nothing is wrong with it. After playing with my x2 again; I've noticed that.... I DON'T even notice any real difference in input. After looking it up; the lag in input is ONLY up to 10 miliseconds. Making me wonder if spending on the backbone was even worth it, but cest la vi. I love having backups so I should have controllers that will last me the next few years at minimum and that has me psyched!

I've also decided that in the next month or two I'm going to get me a smart phone that can play gamecube and PS2 but am gonna wait a bit. I'll probably also buy another samaung sA03 because they're only 50 bucks but can run all the older systems n64 and down(except saturn) as a backup in case my stylo 5 ever shits itself. And for snes and older I still have 4 lg premiere pro lte's that are in good condition so I'm soon to be SET on all my gaming needs for a LONG time.

nta But the main reason I ever impulsively got the Flip5 was to be able to play 3DS and DS games on my phone with a similar form factor of the two screens, also wanted to play a lot of emulators and Android games on the outer screen.
Both dreams ended up fruitless, so fucking hard, and now I'm paying $100 a month for my fucking phone bill on top of the $360 down payment I made on the fucking thing, and after two months of use the crease in the middle is so fucking apparent and prominent, I hate it so much.

A chinkheld with (variable angle?)IR output just for that sounds funny.
It'd still need two(?) more IR sources to properly function, not that I have any idea how small this can be, but looks like 3ft/1m distance is needed.
Setting aside whatever emulator function can simulate, it's like for a "true handheld" without other hardware that people "won't notice" as a silly idea it's like you could stick two IR on your feet while reclined(maybe standing?) or something. Other than that I guess you're fairly fucked without space, and other handheld options like quick relocation, being for kids, isn't an option etc.

I mostly just like handhelds because I can play in a comfortable position while laying in my bed... I usually sit in a more focused and tense position when I play on the couch with a controller in my hands, but with a handheld I can focus while I'm laying down on some cushions, covered by some mattress, it just feels nice and it's also fun since I can play for a few minutes in bed before I sleep.

I'll admit though, it's also a God sent when I'm at my GF's place over the weekend sometimes, I've always had trouble sleeping, and there are some night where I know it's just not happening, and when that's the case I like to take the handheld I brought with me, go to the living room, turn on one of the lights while shutting the room's door, and playing while laying on her couch... it's nice.

Also, being in a relationship is difficult, you have less time for yourself, more responsibility and obligations, and people are complicated, it's hard and will make you suffer, even if it's worth it.

I'd just keep on living as normal if I were you, if you see an opportunity then go for, but don't let it take over your life, it's special, but can be hard and you can be happy without one, trust me.

Why do you feel this way, anon? How old are you? Do you get out of your house often? What's your job like? Do you have any social circles?

Again, I know that when you're not in a relationship, it looks like the best thing in the world, I used to think it was the only thing that could cure my depression, for exemple... I still hate living and sometimes long for death at stressful times, I still love her, but I'm sad.

We can't expect a relationship to make our lives so much better so suddently, and it's not healthy to do so, I mean, if you need a relationship to be happy, let's say you get a GF in 10 years, will you wait 10 years to enjoy life? I mean, women can be amazing, but they can't be all there is, and we can't let them have so much power over us, not because they suck or whatever, but because it's also unfair to them, to put so much expectation and our entire well beings in their hands, if our happiness depends on a single person, if that person goes away, so does our happiness too.

I know it might sound easy for me to say and all, since I'm dating currently, but this is just the perspective of someone that was in a similar place a couple of years ago, I hope it can help.

P.S. It'd be freaking sweet if robot maids/wives can be invented in our life time, though I'm sure feminist groups will probably be outraged like they always are about everything, but whatever.

I started playing Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, and even though it runs perfectly even at 1440p it has an annoying issue where whenever I change equipment or bring up the map screen the whole world goes black. Sometimes saving and loading will fix it, but not always.
I have a similar problems with Atelier Ryza, it runs at a locked 30fps at 1440p, but the lighting doesn't render properly and there's shadows glitching on the floor.

Do you interact with the people in your class? Is the relationship with them good overall? As long as you're happy with what you will graduate in and the jobs you might get, then the money you'll get from working should be enough to at least keep you moderately happy, even if it's not exactly what you want, since you want a GF and all, also it's possible that you get a better social circle at work when you start that.

CS is a wonderful area to be graduating in right now, at least compared to most areas where it's likely people will graduate only to become Uber drivers and/or flip burgers over at McDonalds, a lot of majors nowadays just don't have much of an actual market. I suppose the main issue with CS compared to something more in the human, and even biological, sciences is that there's not much of a need for interaction between people, so while other majors might even force more of an interaction due to small group classes and a few group projects, CS probably has less I guess.

It's a shame since it's likely your job will be like that too, not much unavoidable interaction with people, so you need to actively go out of your way to do it. Do you have any hobby besides video games? If you like drawing, for example, I think some art classes could have more people interaction than what you got during college in CS, though of course I'm just stipulating really.

I really wish I could do something to help you out, anon... but I don't think there's much I can do, it's up to you and also up to life's situations, which can be out of our control and hard to really predict. I hope you're at least somewhat happy now and that, when you start making some cash from working, that helps you become happier... for me, my partner came out of nowhere, so the same could happen, but make sure you live while you wait for the opportunities to present themselves, keep some of the money you get from working, but spend some to spoil yourself.

it's just funny how i never split sixth myself in the past hardware wise but it got done on this board
even something like evo essentially stuck to 2001 releases for 8 years
i didn't make people do this, nor did i whine for them to, along with a potentially lost livelihood happening despite success in fifth
nor did i magically make people lead up to the statement of "/v/ is shit at games" for nearly two decades due to how tied they were for ps2 onwards

It was always at least $15 more than the R36S, what bullshit are you spouting?
Honestly tho, its only real flaw is the DS4 styled d-pad, wish it didn't have its directions separated even if it's all one solid button.

>Yuzu just isn't good enough yet for accurate emulation.
True, fortunately they are making a steady progress releasing updates almost everyday
On the meanwhile I'll play some ps2 games with texture packs, they look amazing

On leak day, Yuzu was the only emulator that was able to run Tears of the Kingdom. I'm in the same boat at Mutahar where I legitimately buy my Switch games, but prefer playing them on almost anything else but the Switch itself due to its hardware limitations. The Switch is the second Nintendo console where I had no patience for the limited hardware they made to keep things inexpensive, the first being the Wii.
I mean, the Wii is literally just a successful GameCube, but they really could have made a proper successor to the GameCube that also had motion controls as a gimmick and still have been successful. It wasn't the Wii's price point that made it so popular, it was the Wii Sports fad where everybody who was anybody had to own Wii Sports, even if their Wii became a paper weight two weeks after buying it. They still would have impulsively felt the need to belong and get the latest thing everyone else was getting if it was $100 more and had proper, competitive hardware specs with the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Upon photoshopping this idiocy I came to appreciate how fucking stupid the original design actually is; Unless they want you to play with the controls on the right side of the controller, the fucking rounded edge bit should be by the fucking face buttons and not the analog stick. When you use it like one of those shitty left-only phone controller add-ons, where your palm rests would be in the fucking sharper edge corner where the face buttons are while the fucking top of it is smoothed and rounded out where you won't even be holding it. I hate it when South Americans try to 3D render game consoles/handhelds so much, they always have such glaring design flaws.
