Artdink are my favorite retro developer because they are the textbook definition of "based autists."

>Yeah bro we'll make a SimCity clone, but if you don't read our 300 page manual and memorize Japanese train timetables you can fuck off
>Sure dude we can make a fun game about undersea diving but if you don't know anything about how reef ecology works you aren't ever beating it
>Oh what's that? Super Mario 64 just came out? Fuck that shit homie, we'll make the ANTI-MARIO, we'll make a deliberately UN-FUN game just because we fucking can (actual quote from Kazutoshi Iida)
>Stupid fucking gaijin are outsourcing us for some game about stocks and subsidiaries? Hey, shove the timetable stuff in there and don't tell anyone, it'll be hi-la-ri-ous
>Oh, you thought our historical spice trade simulator would give your pussy ass a map? Fuck you, literally learn cartography first (we WILL make fun of you if your map sucks btw)
>Why is every single fucking JRPG so linear and boring? Here, we'll make the ultimate CYOA to ever exist, and if no one can even finish it because it's more obtuse than MOON? Tough shit, we're already making another that's harder
>Are those (((accountants))) over at From Software making a mecha game now? It's gonna be casual trash, so we're gonna make the player PROGRAM THE ENTIRE ROBOT

I could go on but you get the point. By the way, did you know they developed the most recent SMT game for Atlus AND Triangle Strategy? Fucking mad lads are used for outsourcing and they don't even give a shit about getting credited.

Even the spreads they got in Dengeki PS were autistic as fuck to look at. Imagine being some piece of shit kid and seeing a giant Gundam on one page followed by this.

My first contact was with A-Train. A friend lent me his disks and the 140 pages manual. Loved playing scenario 1, having a small station grow into a bustling city and the visuals with day/night and season cycles were gorgeous.

Only missing HR2, another very autistic game:
> C-programming + structural engineering + logistics

i dont think you know what any of those things mean lil zoomie. artdink is very far removed from anything typical of the industry.

Everything makes sense when you know that Artdink didn't consider themselves as a "game" company. They made simulators/interactive experiments.
A-Train was literally just a railway simulator at first, and then they added the game part as an afterthought when they realized watching trains going in circles for hours would get boring eventually.

I like their games but I do feel the simulator games are hard to grasp

They're not retro but I think PC Classic and the most recent one are the best to start with. Both of them have good tutorial stages to get you going as well.

Most above all they are kikes, charging $70 for a 15+ year old game.
