I made it Blood Chads. although this level seems pretty tough. also this game is so fucking good holy shit, the level design, secrets, the attention to detail, all of it is just top notch
the only thing I don't understand is the save system (or lack thereof). I've just been saving at the start of every map and going from there, but I'm not sure why I don't just start with zero weapons on the same level when I die, instead of just nothing
if I didn't save and died 5 levels in the game would just throw me back to the start, I think

fuck doing that for now though, game is hard enough as it is
that said, it is a weird dilemma, like with Doom and the shotgun start. on the one hand the developers give you the ability to save and therefore carry stuff over into levels even if you die, and on the other it means the weapon placement is kind of null and void if you have it already, plus the game will be easier overall

I agree on Boom, it filled all the gaps with generalized actions and codified some hacks into proper functionality, and covered things like custom animations and switches.

You might want to go straight for MBF21, which is mostly known for modder functionality, but also has a few useful functions for mappers, plus fixes the obnoxious thing about monsters being pushed off ledges.

Yes, GzDoom runs pretty much everything. You might want to be on a lookout for MBF21 compatibility since it's relatively new. GzDoom also has preset compatibilities that emulates various "proper" compatibilities. Otherwise they are mostly of interest for speedrunners.

Also speaking of Zandronum, I'm gonna give you boys a little tip: If you're compressing your sprites to crunch down on filesize, make sure you get a good set of tools to do it, otherwise you're gonna get a nasty surprise when you open your project up in Zandronum. The only build of Wrath in existence really is a shitshow in terms of level design/enemy placement/ammo distribution, if they intend for you to 100%, instead of run to the exit the second you find it.
You have to jump all around every crevice of the map to get things to teleport in, and half the time you don't have the ammo needed to deal with them upon doing so.
It's just not fun rummaging around for invisible enemies that require hidden ammo to dispatch. Every map becomes distilled into pure "who gives a fuck anymore, just get me out of here", especially when it isn't always evident where you're supposed to go, since, y'know, there's no trail of enemies to follow until they decide to start existing.
Hope the new build improves that. Haha, who am I kidding? It's never releasing.

the only problem I had was that changing gamma (vid_gamma) affects sky, but changing texture brightness (intensity) doesn't.

Solo Mission's nicer than Singularity, since Singularity is a minimal-rough-changes fix so you have shit like the laser puzzle in Intensity being entirely cut and the end of Resonance being much harder than it's supposed to be due to having no second-player fire support.
Solo Mission's maps are nicer due to being re-engineered to levels of detail beyond the original shitty ones, so once it comes out entirely it should be the superior way to play SP Decay.

Compelled by a new inner voice to return periodically to the Distillery Laboratories to secretly drink from various vats, now Gus is faced with having to defend it from thirsty bullsquids, HECU grunts going AWOL, and a black ops team looking to secure valuable research. Gus isn't gonna share, and will fight tanks if he has to.

The point about music in a map is that it needs to fit. If your music sucks or doesn't follow the flow of the first 5 minutes of the map, it's shit and shouldn't be used. This "flow" is for example when you start blasting your shotgun or when enemies appear, obviously you cannot control this for other players. Cradle to Grave, Wrong Side of the Tracks, Phantom Express and Dark Carnival are just seriously excellent both in theming and level design, and it's the point where you really have to learn the maps and hunt for secrets and everything, so I guess they get soaked in even more
