Most rotations can be simplified to 1 or 2 buttons

I actually kind of regret it only due to its shitty white outlines, but thankfully it comes right off with zero adhesive in case I ever want to swap it for a better one. As someone that plays on their smartphone with a controller attached to it, I just want to say that I LOVE whoever made the superb Genesis Plus GX Wide core on RetroArch... not only can it turn all, or at least most, Genesis ROMs into 16:9... it can be customized to to stuff like 21:9 aswell, so for modern smartphone screens, which can often be around 21:9 and 19.5:9, it's just perfect to use...

It's so good to be able to use my entire screen as I'm playing... WITHOUT stretching it and having it look off. It actually makes things widescreen for a change... now how long until more cores do it?

I hope we can get a Master System, NES or SNES cores in the near future that do the same, so far there doesn't seem to be anything even close to Genesis Plus GX Wide for these other consoles...

P.S. Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin is STILL the best Spider-Man video game. Fuck you, Insomniac...

I get that, and I don't want to complain as if the people behind the emulators we use every day aren't putting in a lot of work already, if it can't be done then it just can't be done, it's just this one thing that, if it happened, would be really freaking sweet.

>Weren't you just ranting about this in another thread?
Ah, I posted about this on a thread about what we'd like to see from future emulation developments, if I recall that right, I figured it made sense to talk about it here too due to how me and a lot of people use smartphones that have screens even wider than 16:9 nowadays... I wish smartphones would go back to 16:9 really, though it seems they'll only get taller over time.

Genesis was kinda special in that it could preload level sections and scroll them really fast using hardware acceleration. That's the reason why speed was chosen as Sonic's main characteristic, to emphasize the advantages of Genesis. That hardware quirk and games being designed for it might be what made that core possible at all or at least easy enough to create for people to bother. I think that we might never see those kinds of cores for other systems.

Ah, this action figure is about 20 years old at this point, and it was a bootleg figure, so I'm still a bit surprised its last this long, especially with how I didn't take good care of my toys as a kid. I used to play with girls' toys when I was young, until one day my grandpa got fed up because he was afraid I'd turn out to be a faggot, so he took me to a store and told me to choose a toy for boys.

I went with this Spider-Man figure, for some reason, it just looked cool, and since then this has been one of my favorite characters. I miss grandpa, he was really freaking cool to me.

I really love this form factor, but spurging $750 on Win Mini is really hard to justify when RP2S is several times cheaper, covers the vast majority of my use cases and also has many of the same niceties like hall effect sticks or good-quality speakers. I don't play modern PC games at all and I feel like most of my time with that device would be spent emulating PS2 and playing PC games from 15-20 years ago, for which it's way too overkill. I just wish Windows emulation on RP2S got better and I could play games like Kao the Kangaroo: Mystery of the Volcano and Rayman 3 with Polish dubbing.

It's called Winlator, it already came out and I did some tests with it. Touhou 6 was playable, but only at 30 FPS. Kao: Mystery of the Volcano had constantly glitching graphics and low performance that ruined the experience (and would probably ruin it even more for someone who plays that game for the first time because they wouldn't naturally know where to go and what to do like I do). There are also two big technical issues with that emulator. The first one is inability to assign input profiles to shortcuts, I had to swipe from the left and set them manually each time I launched a game. This is quite a minor nitpick compared to the second one though, which is the inability to pass through an Android controller as a Windows Xinput controller. Mapping analog sticks to arrow keys or WASD is a bad idea and works poorly. It's genuinely more comfortable to map the D-pad to them instead, but obviously far from perfect. Overall, Windows PC emulation on Android is still at an early stage and has ways to go.

I think the DreamCast was the last time I remember having a similar experience and feeling getting hyped to buy a console/game, feverishly admiring its pictures in catalogs and magazines. I didn't get that from the PS2, GameCube, Xbox, PSP, or anything that came after them. I KIND of felt it when I got my Nintendo DS, because I had ordered the special red and black phat one that released for the Virtual Boy's 20th anniversary/to sell alongside Jump Superstars from Play-Asia alongside the Mystical Ninja DS game. Waiting for them to arrive and playing them was so fucking hype, I even bought some DS games before it arrived in anticipation (Feel The Magic and can't remember the other one). Unironically just getting older. Experiences are no longer fresh. Time goes by faster. You can afford more. You're desensitized to the satisfaction of getting new things.
Media and society don't change as much as people think. Your perception of the world changes much more. You have to find joy in other little things as you grow older. Find more to appreciate even though the "magic" is gone.

Okay, Dr. K. You're not supposed to, "make yourself bored". You're supposed to discipline yourself against every impulsive thought your brain comes up with until you an quiet it. Exist without thought, let alone five different songs running the same verse on repeat.
I just realized another factor though; Time limitations. When I was a kid, I had literally nothing to do but worry about what video game I would want next or when I'd be able to play it. Now I have so many fucking things to be concerned about and responsible for, even when I do have the money for a new release I've been anticipating I usually just pass, never buy it, never participate in any discussions around it in case one day I do decide I want to go in raw and blind when I have the time. But when I do have the time I impulsively feel disinterested at best or guilty at worst when playing a video game, I'd rather be doing something more productive.
I now look forward to playing any video game the same way I look forward towards going to bed, usually because I do both at the same time these days.

I can't speak for the tablet but I have a steam deck, infact I'm posting this on it right now (docked). I love mine, it plays just about all retro consoles fullspeed, even switch games are 60fps. I use mine on the treadmill all the time to play 2D indie and retro shit like stardew, harvest moon, castlevania etc...

It's been one of the best purchases I've made and it's very easy to setup retroarch or any other emulator you want to use and have it in your steam library. I don't have the OLED version but it's been one of my best gaming purchases in the last 5 years, the other being a mister.

So I finally got a backbone after returning the usbc gamesir (cripes was that bad design, what were they thinking) anyways, so far the backbone is good. Ima give it 4 out of 5 stars. For what touts to be a premier game controller the one I got; the left thumbstick has issues with going fully forward. Like Im playijg legend of dragoon and I have to put some pressure on the front thumbstick in order for my character to run and not walk. It's annoying; am wondering about doing an exchange on it. Other then that, it fits my phone comfortably. The abxy/sq,tri,circ,x buttons are probably the most impressive feature along with the dpad. The buttons are very robust and clicky. The r2/l2 are not clicky which is kind of a bummer but thats a known issue. So 4 out of 5 stars. Might be happier if left thumbstick wasnt janky, will prob exchange.

To this day.... nothingbbeats the razer kishi V1 though if it hadnt been for the fact that it just stopped working on my phone one day; Id use it still. It works on my newer phones im just loathe to set up everything for the upteenth time on a different phone. I'll hold onto them for when I get a phone purely for newer gen gameplay like gamecube and ps2.

Ironically; my favorite controller has been the gameair x2 bluetooth which Im going to get another of. After playing with the backbone I can see the difference in input speed but honestly for anything below newer gen or ps2 type stuff it seems really negligible, I could only see like a split second in input timing/button press and I don't play a grip of fighting games so yeah. Thats my backbone review and once again fuck razer for making the kishi v1 abandonware.

Due to the addition system and a desire to full complete it for Nostalgia's sake it's taking forever. I do love the story so much though that it's worth it. This could have been a very popular and beloved game but imo its the addition syatem that holds it back bigly. If it wasn't for save states; I'd double the time it's taken to unlock everything.

A good question. Is it worth 100$? No, greedy company. I got mine on the cyber monday sale for 70$. Is it a valuable product? Yes. It's the best replacement I have found for the Kishi V1. Honestly if it wasn't for the left thumbstick being a little fucky. (am gonna exchange it to see if this persists, i think it's just a bad unit or singular issue I got) It's comfortable and more compact than the kishi v1 was for me.

Pros:
Compact, should fit 98% of phones snugly.
The telescope extends enough that a mad lad could use a tablet.
Amazing ABXY buttons. Clicky, robust.
Good DPAD in my opinion

Cons:
I got a defective thumbstick so im a little sour about that. Am testing to see if I can break it in? As I have an extended return window.
Thumbsticks are very comparable to the psp/ this could be a pro or a con to some. I wouldve liked them just a tiny bit bigger.
L2/R2 are not clicky. Doesn't bother me but could be a con to some.
It's been out long enough that I feel they should drop their price by 20$ atleast. 100$ kind of feels like a fuck you to consumers.

I'm not gonna use the backbone app but it does have some extra features in it if one wants to look that up, I believe for button mapping and such if you play mobile/online games. Screenshot, etc.

The gamesir X2 usb-c. I habent heaed of a new one past that but for me. The usb c being on the left side was utterly retarded. Some emulators wouldn't do reverse landscape view automatically and the N64 emulators both I was using showed the controller but the inputs would not work at all in game making it unable to play. Sucked. Plus it didnt fit my stylo 5 right. The left side popped out a little. I do not recommend the gamesir x2 usb-c whatsoever. I do recommens the gamesir x2 bluetooth for older gen games which don't require precise input as the difference was extremely neglible to me.

Most of my phones have lived a very very longtime so I prefer to use that as my console and use telescopics or bluetooth controllers instead as I feel I save money in the long run. Just my personal though. I dont look down on handheld enjoyers.

reminds me of that uConsole that ClockworkPi put out a bit ago(and their older DevTerm and GameShell kit computer handhelds) and how they're designed to be assembled by the end user in a simple manner without having to solder or anything;

I like mine, is it worth $100? I would wait for a sale unless you need something right now. If you're not going to be using it while travelling I would maybe look at the gamesir G8 instead.

IMO its better than any chinese handheld you're getting for that price, assuming you already own a good phone, but there are a couple small issues with it that make it less than perfect.

>DPAD in wrong place
>Very shallow grips
>Slightly creaky sometimes
>Not the best case compatibility
>Two buttons that can't be rebound and are useless without the company's shitty app installed.

These aren't killers, and I find it much more comfortable to use than things like the RG35XX which I used to use, but it isn't anywhere near as comfy as something bulkier like the new Telescopic controller that's basically an xbox controller.

I'm happy with it, shit looks amazing on an OLED screen and its nice having one device for watching stuff and playing games on, with Daijiisho its basically like having a gamesconsole, but if I were buying again I would look at the G8 first, just more substantial.

You will get almost perfect integer scaling with SNES, only 16 pixels wasted vertically iirc. If it's anything like my New 2DS display, then you will also get "scanlines" for free. I know that they aren't actual scanlines because there is no actual electron beam scanning the display, but I can still clearly see small gaps between horizontal lines on the display. IMO looks very good and very close to a miniature CRT.

GBA is worse, you'll only get 2/3 of vertical space filled if you use integer scaling and it will turn into a blurry mess if you don't. Colors will also look oversaturated.

I'm really tempted to get an Odin 2. I already own a Retroid Pocket 3+ and a Steam Deck, neither of which get much use, but the idea of something smaller and lighter than the Steam Deck with a 1080p screen that can play everything on PS2 & GameCube upscaled is tempting.

I 100%ed that one too. Rayman 3D is actually very close to the Dreamcast version overall except they overhauled the health system to make the game so easy that toddlers can beat it and introduced new bugs. well, 3D on the GBA ran worse than on fucking Saturn, so its games library is made up of ports of early 90s (and even 80s) 2D games and new titles that look just like them. it's technically not a 90s console, but is one is spirit.

I also have a Micro, but I don't recommend it. The faceplates let dust behind them, which then gets to the screen because the gasket doesn't work great (at least not anymore). Also the faceplates tend to break and it is difficult to find quality replacements.

In reality they aren't that advanced, they just display a blank screen or something unless you go into your DS's system menu and adjust the date. I can tell you have no idea what I'm talking about so let me explain. Most LCD's dont have a fractional display refresh. The SNES and NES run at 60.10, The LCD is 60, so every so often you're gonna get a stutter from the fractional frames, this happens no matter what system unless the display device matches the console refresh rate, which is where gsync and free sync/vrr shine. That or you force the console to run at 60.00 instead of the proper 60.10.

It's been done plenty of times with other consoles, usually for the purpose of miniaturizing non-handheld shit to make it handheld, so in principle it CAN be done
Then again, the GBC is already a miniaturized version of the DMG, so if that's where you get your parts you might have serious trouble taking it any further
You might have more luck digging into GBAs for the smallest available version of the GBC CPU (it was a separate chip from the ARM core)
At any rate, if you don't have the EE background to take a GBC schematic and lay it out as a new PCB you won't get very far with this kind of project

Even if it had to be made a mm thicker for the analogs? Of if it was the size of a horizontal but with a lid, (Could make some use of all that unused lower space though.) so it had the same size battery?
Is it STILL the White man's form factor?

If you're going that direction, the triggers should be analog, the screen shouldn't be much wider than 4:3, and the right stick is redundant

What do you mean by that? An RCA jack?

the 3ds is already clamshell with analog, and the original ds is also thicker than that if you want more leeway, the original game boy even more
don't know how much of a change clamshell will be for battery, but again ds/3ds/chinkshit already exist
>form factor
the size i have in mind is roughly new 3ds xl, which is also the size of a regular controller
admittedly trying to shove a screen larger(7.33in) than the deck's(7in) might be too much of an ask for that size, but matching could do

What if
A verticool was allowed to design his ideal horislop? I think this would be it, MAYBE bring it down to a 3.5 inch screen to make it more pocketable.

The largest dumfones are smaller than the Vita, I don't get why people bother with larger. PSP was smaller but still overdone because 16:9 ate too much as non clamshell. With that ratio it's also a thinner rectangle compared to the Nintendo ones to grab.

Wow, Rayman Origins on 3DS is just so fucking bad. I wanted to buy it in Rayman & Rabbids Family Pack because I found a listing for just 5 EUR (Origins standalone is more expensive, kek). I downloaded the game from hShop to check if it's worth it before I pulled the trigger and good thing I did, because this is certainly the worst version of Origins on any platform. The graphics are blurry and the game only runs at 30 FPS (overclocking the CPU to New 3DS levels doesn't help). This was probably unavoidable considering the technical limitations of 3DS, there is probably no way to make UbiArt's 2D vector graphics look good on a display with such a low resolution or make the game run smoother considering it was optimized for Old 3DS. But that's where excuses end. They also compressed the audio to the point where it sounds like ear rape if you listen to it through headphones (seriously, try it if you have a hacked 3DS). This is a huge shame, because music is one of the best parts of this game. I think they also cut some content, because I remember there being 350 Lums and 5 Electoon cages in the first level, but there is only 150 Lums and 3 Electoon cages in this version. All of that was probably done to conserve cartridge space and increase UbiSoft's profits, which is inexcusable. The size of this game is less than 200MB. Compare that to a game like Dead or Alive Dimensions that wasn't at all much more expensive than Origins for 3DS back when it released but was over a gigabyte in size.

Avoid this shit, play the Vita version instead if you can, that one is miles ahead.

Honestly most of the gameboy inspired designs have the same problem, putting the speaker in the lower corner.
