I agree. I played it for my first time and got multiple levels into the game which I can't do in a R-Type game on my first try.

An enjoyable little game, one of the few shoot 'em ups really suited for co-op, though very easy unfortunately. Not as good as the main R-Type trilogy in my opinion, but as an IREM game it's just fine like all their stuff was.

I love this Shmup, it's not really a true R-Type game due to the lack of Force Unit, but it has really clever stage design, great graphics and a killer soundtrack. Also, although it's definitely easier than the other R-Type games, that's mainly because it doesn't have so many bullshit trial and error parts, which is a good thing.

The first R-Type is generally fair, but what about the exploding walls all through Stage 7? They look exactly the same as the ones which are safe, and if you don't have many speed power ups then you can't actually move fast enough to escape their explosion.

The essence of R-Type is mostly the Force.
I like the backgrounds and ship's design, but the stage themes and the more generic gameplay made it a titled I never cared about. And R-Type is one my favourite series ever.

Gallop is in the same spot.
